LS1 & Wiper Motor Interference
I'm having a problem with installing the wiper motor (variable speed control) on my '85. It is hitting the rear part of the LS1, and I can't move anything to get it to fit. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: LS1 & Wiper Motor Interference
I had issue with my 87's washer pump...which is installed in the wiper motor housing. I ended up pulling the pump anyway beacuse I decided to run a 4th gen water bottle.
But it would have been tight if I decided to keep it. I think I actually broke a piece of the cover off the wiper motor because I didnt realize it was going to hit. Oops..
Here is my space. I could probably get the pump back in if I tried. Im not sure if the 85's motor and all is different though. So if it is..just disregard everything I said.

Re: LS1 & Wiper Motor Interference
Thanks ghetto. That looks like my '85 wiper/pump. I didn't think I could pull the washer pump without breaking something, but I'll have to take it apart and look again.
wedjim, I'm almost positive he has Hawks headers.

Yup...Hawks/Stainless Works.
kev... That washer pump just slides out I believe. I cant remember anything holding mine in. There are two flat blade terminals at the top. One is perpendicular to the other. Just give it a wiggle and I think they pull out.
Something made me have to pull mine out though...So maybe give that a try. You could also pull the cover off all together, get the engine in the car, then you might have space to put the wiper motor cover back on. Sort of like an order of operations type of thing.
Good luck!

Hawks, I was afraid you would say that. LOL
Once I win the lottery, i'm down with the $800 headers, but until then, it looks like manifolds for me. I would rather spend the money some place else right now......until that is the last thing, or someone like Hedmann makes headers for $350-400....or less.
Dam#, They do look sweet though!

Re: LS1 & Wiper Motor Interference
For the earlier third gens the washer pump does interfere. I ground mine off when I installed it as I used the washer resavoir for the coolant overflow (computer took the location of the original overflow) so the car was officially without washer fluid. Not a terrible loss in So Cal.
Hey Firechicken- did you ever get that one working??
