lq9 swap
I recently purchased a Lq9 from a friend its brand new in the crate
this are the parts i have now
Lq9 long block
Lsx swap long tube headers
Tubular K member
Tubular A arms with spring perches
ls1 wiring harness with ecu
ls1 coil pack
Ported ls1 throttle body
Ls6 intake manifold
tps sensor
cam pos sensor
tb sensor
fuel press sensor
oil level sensor
vss
coolant tank 4th gen f body
This is the list i have of parts i need to get her running let me know if i left anything out
Ls6 fuel rail
Fuel injectors (dont know what size to get yet open to ideas)
crank pos sensor
knock sensor x2 (and sensor harness)
front pulley drive kit with Water pump
Map sensor
spark plugs and wires
Mass air flow sensor ( another dont know which one to get)
ecu programer? do i need it if i get it tuned? and vice versa
O2 sensors x 2
motor mounts
4th gen fuel tank ( i heard i can run a external kit with a return line.) lmk with this also
and oh yeah a 4l60e lol
im really new to the LS engines if you guys have any ideas on stuff i need just let me know. for now im just wanting to get her running a drivable then i'll upgrade the heads cam etc etc.

Re: lq9 swap
this are the parts i have now
Lq9 long block
Lsx swap long tube headers - Not required
Tubular K member - Not required
Tubular A arms with spring perches - Not required
ls1 wiring harness with ecu - Harness much be modified to use properly and its a PCM (sorry pet peeve)
ls1 coil pack - Hopefully there are 8 of these with the LS1 specific mini harnesses
Ported ls1 throttle body
Ls6 intake manifold
tps sensor
cam pos sensor
tb sensor - Id assume this is the IAC since the TPS is already spoken for
fuel press sensor - Not required, even with the 4th gen tank
oil level sensor - Not required, just plug the hole in the pan
vss - Should come with the new trans
coolant tank 4th gen f body
This is the list i have of parts i need to get her running let me know if i left anything out
Ls6 fuel rail - Identical to the LS1
Fuel injectors (dont know what size to get yet open to ideas) - 26 or 28lbs, the PCM must be retuned, so grab whatever you want and program for them
crank pos sensor
knock sensor x2 (and sensor harness) - Beware there are two styles to this and they must be matched to function
front pulley drive kit with Water pump
Map sensor
spark plugs and wires - Match your wires to the coil pack brackets, truck pieces require longer wires
Mass air flow sensor ( another dont know which one to get) - Car or truck, just match the connector to it
ecu programer? do i need it if i get it tuned? and vice versa - The PCM must be tuned, no getting around it
O2 sensors x 2 - Beware the many many different types
motor mounts - Options for both LS1 style and SBC retrofit
4th gen fuel tank ( i heard i can run a external kit with a return line.) lmk with this also - Not required. Pointless if using an inline pump, dont forget to change the sending unit to a 90ohm piece
and oh yeah a 4l60e lol

Next you will need some sort of fuseblock/relay center. Your car will not have enough fuses or relays in place to support the LSx
I nearly missed it, but you dont have a Fbody pan listed, also required

Re: lq9 swap
throttle cable?
Making this same list and digging through what I've got. You just reminded me I need a MAF too.
and to save yourself time and money, it appears the LS1 & LS6 fuel rails are the same from what I found. Might save you from the LS6-tax markup.

Re: lq9 swap
got almost everything you guys mentioned just need the front drive pulley set (minus the crank pulley and alternator)
i need
the starter, air intake, air manifold/throttle body bolts
hopefully can get a deal locally for the 4l60e but its not looking good if i cant get the trans i might have to wait till one pops up
wife is pissed i have half the living room full of boxes.... she wants this done just as bad as i do lmao

sweet thanks dyno
i have ls1 coil packs too forgot to mention
this is the fuse box thats connected to the harness.
got pretty lucky the guy who sold me the harness labled everything for me so i wont have to guess
this is some more stuff that came in today
got throttle body and a bunch of sensors and a zo6 maf (got the 5-3 pin harness too) the crank pulley alternator and the 10.4 mm plug wires

Re: lq9 swap
It should. Every MAF Ive ever seen came with a screen. Its purpose is to smooth airflow for a more accurate reading

Re: lq9 swap
i ran one for about a year on a 2002 silvy with nos on it. at first i thought it was great. till i started reading it in hp tuners and found it getting turbulants. it could be tuned in. i ended up with a screened maf. way better esults since the air across the sensors is straightened out. and from my experience a naturally aspirated engine will be able to go really far before it will outperform a stock maf.

Re: lq9 swap
ok kool just picked up the ls1 fuel tank. got it for 100 bux with teh pump just need the new lines. i figured i save some money and just get a autometer fuel gauge. i dont think i should have a problem with this set up.
i can pay for the trans next paycheck just text me the price if it didnt change. thanks bro

Re: lq9 swap
The 'vettes and F-cars don't need screens, but the trucks do. The reason for the difference is the vette and F use a straight shot from the filter into the TB, but the trucks used a 90-degree bend.

Re: lq9 swap
IIRC, in the trucks, the fresh air made the 90-degree bend before getting to the MAF, then was a straight shot from the MAF to the TB. The screen helps straighten out the airflow.

Re: lq9 swap
just got in the trans cross member from pocket. thanks bro
got the hummer starter its real small
and the power steering reservoir.
got this in yesterday the dual fans, the mounting hardware for the fans, intake bolts the fan relays and the throttle cable. waiting for a few more things like the power steering pump, iac sensor, knock sensors and the reservoir bracket. should be good to go in 2 weeks or so.

Re: lq9 swap
Is that a Mr. Gasket throttle cable? Where'd you pick that up? Is it a direct fit for this swap?

Not really.
The temp sender is easy enough to handle with a separate sending unit in the other head, and running the green wire over to it (that's what I did).
The oil pressure can be taken directly to the dash gauge.
The tach can be reset in the PCM.
The speedometer converter won't do you any good with a cable driven speedometer.

Re: lq9 swap
thanks bro. i'll get the aftermarket gauges from autometer. but im going to use the fast fuel system set up im not going to use the ls1 fuel tank. http://www.compperformancegroupstore...FuelSystemKits
should make the fuel part of the swap a lil easier

Well, I don't know about that, either. The AFPR might be a comfort-enhancing item, but a $125 Walbro in-tank pump (I swapped my carb tank pick-up for a in-tank pump pick-up), $30 Vette fuel filter, $20 coil of fuel line, and maybe $30 worth of fittings will do the same thing.
