What is a good size turbo for 6.0 swap? (plus more questions needing answers)

I need help

I have nearly tripled the RWHP in my car just by ditching the bone stock 305 and dropping in a heads/cam 6.0 LS motor...and I still want more.

I have been finding some really good deals on complete 3rd gens on craigslist in my area, and there is some money to be had in parting them out. I'm thinking about parting a few cars out and building a turbo kit for my car.

So my questions are:

-What is a good size single turbo for a stock cube 6.0?

-What brands are good, what are things to watch out for when looking at used parts, etc.?

-Will a generic intercooler be sufficient or am I going to need something uber-high dollar?

-Does anyone have connections with getting tubing built, especially with the manifolds?

-Are 42# injectors, and a single Walbro 255lph pump sufficient for a single turbo?

And probably my most important question that will really determing whether I want to invest in this project is....

-Will a turbo work decently with my cam? (Texas Speed MS4 239/242, .649"/.609" 111 LSA)

I'm kind of thinking that if the cam isn't going to behave nicely with a single turbo, then I'm going to put this on hold for a few years and just enjoy the mid-400hp range for a while. If you think that it will do alright, I may have to start sourcing out parts and selling 3rd gen parts to pay for it. Perhaps this could be a winter project for me.

Wanting to do a F1 procharger on my car, but a single S480 turbo on your 6.0 can net 700 RWHP or so, price is right from what i see also.

Re: What is a good size turbo for 6.0 swap? (plus more questions needing answers)

I don't think I would want an s/c. The high end gains of a turbo is really what I'm looking for, the cam is a high end cam, and the thing pulls like a pissed off banshee around 3,000RPM. I can only imagine what it would feel like with a nice turbo kicking in on top of the cam.

Oh, and another question....would it even be safe to run decently low boost (8-10psi) on a 10.6:1 motor?

yes you can run boost on that engine. some tuning would be involved. but i would think a cam change would be necessary due to the 111 lsa.

come on now. a cam swap in an ls1 is a 4 hour job max. i would think you would be wanting a 114lsa and up to stop bleed off.

Are you sure you want to put a whole bunch of power in a convertible chassis?

That cam has way too much overlap for turbocharging. I'd suggest either of Speed Inc.'s turbo cams.
I'd say a single T76 is possible, but I'd go with twins. Squirrel Performance has a good program to help you match turbos to your application. It's easy to use.

Re: What is a good size turbo for 6.0 swap? (plus more questions needing answers)

I don't think it's so much if your cam will "work" with a turbo, it's that your cam with a wider LSA would work better than the one you have. You could run into the issue of the turbo not making any boost untill 3500+rpm, but peak power will be there. With 8-10psi on 10.6:1 your going to be really pushing the limits of pump gas, but on other fuels you should be fine. If I remember right, the fuel pump is good for around 700hp. Think I'd rather see injectors in the area of 60lbs maybe more. Turbo should be around 80mm.

I don't really think I would have an issue with the turbo kicking in at 3,500, that's what the cam kicks in at anyways...in a sense it would be like double the kick haha

You figure out if your gonna run a log, Turbo Headers or Manifolds? I started a thread on here a while back about ls1 forced inductions. Theres a few good links to check out. Also a few ideas. Thread really never took off.
