I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

So I originally planned to do a 5.3 Lsx swap but upon searching craigslist I found a 98 trans am ws6 parts car. It was wrecked in the front and the guy only wants $2600 for it. It comes with a cammed motor and a t56 in it. I figured I'll try to get as much from the car as possible and parting out the rest on tech. I'm excited about this cause it seems things are turning around for me lol. Anny suggestions are welcomed.

Nothing to suggest. Buy the car, create a build thread and we go from there

Re: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

my suggestion is to under no circumstances, let that parts car be sold out from under you. That's a great price, especially with the T56 (assuming it runs fine).

How do I check to make sure it's fine? He seems on the up and up but we shall see. He hit a patch of ice at about 35 mph...

Re: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

Do it! That is exactly how my ls swap got started.... found the right deal on a parts car!

I would start the car, and make sure the trans goes into all the gears while the motor is running. Even if the radiator is busted, you can let it run for a few mins

Good luck with it

definitely a heck of a price. grab everything off it you can and sell the rest. even if you don't want it, i'm sure there's a ton of 3rdgenners that would like to take those interior pieces off of you.

Definitely jump on this. You can easily make your money back and then some by parting the rest of the car out. I got a wrecked WS6 for $2500, made all my money back and still have about $1000+ just in stuff that I wont be using.

Re: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

Cool. Like I said, the guy says that he built the motor a little. I'm womdering if I should use the truck motor but put the heads and cam off of the ta with oh. Didn't the 98 & 99 block have some oiling issues or something like that? I'm hoping to turbo later so wasn't sure how everything would work with that aluminum engine. I'll keep you all posted on this. I should be getting it in a couple weeks. Quick question???? If I use a 4th gen dash all of the guages should work with no problem right? Thanks fellas and I will be picking your brains more than you know...after I read the stickies for the 100th time lol.

I have over 190k miles on my '98 Trans Am and holds 40# of oil pressure at temp, driving at 70mph and I still run 5w30 oil in it. I say swap the motor and transmission and have some fun.

Re: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

So I have a possibly dumb question. Since I'll have the donor car with me, is it possible to swap the complete harness from it to the thirdgen? I'm a little confused as far as wiring goes since my car is auto and carb'd. I read Pocket's harness threads and am lost as to what I'm supposed to do exactly. I would love to do as much of this as possible by myself but if I need to outsource this part then so be it, but I'm wanting to try...thanks guys.

Re: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

most of the 4th gen engine harness can be left as-is, but you'll have wires that need to be connected to wiring on the car itself, like your tach, brake switch, fans, obd2 port, etc. there's also really good info on some of this electrical fun here:
http://www.lt1swap.com/2000harness.htm

between pocket's great info on here, lt1swap, and grabbing a Helms manual for you car (or checking out the austin 3rd gen charts), you should have everything and anything you could need for wiring start to finish.

Re: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

You can swap the wiring as a whole with minor changes to the lighting. You'd also have to use the new dash and cluster

Re: I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!!!

So Pocket, I'm making sure that we are on the same page. Are you saying that I can take the whole harness from the 98 and put it in the 85? I do plan to swap the dash and harness just so that I don't have to deal with buying aftermarket gauges lol. This sounds like the route i might take. Thanks a lot.
