I suppose maybe I could start my build thread
Ok...tomorrow is the big day. I'm pulling the motor out of 02 camaro (escalade 6.0) Next weekend I hope to be pulling the motor out of the 83 T/A (305 crossfire). To work on both cars I'm using my brother-in-laws shop since he has a lift so next week kinda depends on him.
Parts that have/should be arriving/shipping out next week:
1. Spohn motor mounts
2. Hawks 'double hump' trans. crossmember
3. Complete wire harness out of a 86 camaro--so I dont have to hack up the CFI harness...maybe I can make a lil money off the set up that way.
4. To ship(after I talk to Pocket again), the LS and 86 harness
Hopefully everythings listed that I need remove from the 02:
1. motor
2. trans
3. wiring harness
4. radiator
5. condenser
6. computer
Did I miss anything??? Any advise???
Pics to follow after the the organs are removed from the donor

Re: I suppose maybe I could start my build thread
sounds like fun, make sure you get photos, we all love seeing more swaps
depending on your plans, the seats are a nice upgrade from the factory 3rd gens and so is the dash (with some modifications)
some like to use the gas tank, its up to you. if you do, you'll need to do something about the sending unit, as the gas gauge won't read correctly if i remember right...
depending on what you have now, the rear end & driveshaft may be worth swapping over; front brakes are pretty good upgrade too

Re: I suppose maybe I could start my build thread
Ok everyone, here is the 2 days later update. It started out rough, but ended up great.
So to start the day off I decided the night before that I would drive it the 6 miles to the shop. I dont have it registered so I figured I would take the title with me and try to some explaining if I get pulled over. I searched for 3 hours and no title. The night before I decided I would just drive it and have my wife follow me, dont know what good it would do but I felt better. Good thing to because about 3 miles in I got a check gauges light....low voltage. So I pull over and check it out adn find a loose batt. cable. The bolt was stripped so I had to go to autozone and get another. I jumped it and the alt. was dead. So I had to call my friend at 6:30a with the car trailer that I was going to borrow in afternoon to get the trailer. So I lost 3 hours in the morn.
I found on ls1 tech a 'how to' guide to removing a 4th gen LS, copied and printed it. In case anyone is interested I got it here: keliente.com/engine.htm This made it super easy. So that finished off day one.
Day 2 I spent taking the motor off the 4th gen K-member and getting it back in the car so I can get it home. But again, suprisingly easy. Especially with a lift. The not so welcome surpise came in trans. fluid. I didnt center the engine on my dolly exactly right, so I also needed a jack on the front. When I was pulling the car off it tilted forward and hit the fan shroud. Luckily no damage. Anyway I left it 1/2 on the dolly and on the jack overnight. The jack bled off and trans. fluid spilled off out all over the floor. I only worked a few hours today, but most was cleaning up.
So if I didnt loose so much time on day 1 I think I would have done it all in one day.
Anyway, I didnt take a lot of pics because all the pics I would have taken were already on the "how to". Plus for most of the time I was by myself and was more conscentrated on getting the job done. But I took a few including the me cheesin it in the empty engine compartment. So here they are...

Nothing at all was wrong with the camaro. I only bought it to be a donor for this swap, then to be sold as a roller.
This is an LS motor. Its an LS2 6.0L. I liked it a lot in the camaro so I'm sure it will be great in the T/A.

Re: I suppose maybe I could start my build thread
Well, I cant believe the last time I put any time into this project was back in may, but I'm bringing back my old thread....kinda. I bit the bullet and bought some headers from another member here. The price was right, and I'm in the stage of accumulating parts where it seems silly that would be the only piece that I dont have, and wouldnt be 100% happy going without. So now with the exeption of the harness I am patiently waiting for Pocket to finish, I have what I believe to be a garage full of all the parts I need to complete my swap, minus the little things that always come back to bite you...like a truck maf I just remembered I need.
Yesterday I started on prepping the crossfire for removal. With 2 flat tires and no air compressor till I could borrow one later in the day, I pulled it out of the garage with my truck and got to work. I am at a place now where I believe everything topside is ready, and I'm ready to move on to suspension removal. As time would have it my wife put a temporary stop to my progress with the holiday, not wanting the driveway taken up with this project and guests on the way. So I filled the flat tires, and made her help (heh heh heh!) push it out of the driveway, turn it around, and back it back into the garage. So hopefully this next set of days off I will go get the car ramps/engine hoist I'm borrowing, buy a movers dolly, and will have an update with pics of an empty engine bay.
My wife did take a pic or 2 of me working. Nothing too interesting... so since I dont think I've ever posted one, I will leave you with just a pic of the car.

Well what do ya know. Yours looks great too, and good write up on window sweeps. I might use that when I'm done with the swap. The only real difference I see besides yours is clean (LOL) is you have the solid front inserts and I have the grills. Its prob. good advice to stay way from the grills...one of mine has a few louvers broke like everyone was saying happens.

Re: I suppose maybe I could start my build thread
Ok...since life happens, it took me 3days to get the old crossfire out in the driveway. 2 days of continued prep from last update, and today (just afternoon actually) to pull. Surprisingly easy job, just a lot of little odds and ends.
++UPDATE: I forgot to mention, and got in trouble for not mentioning that during the lifting process, I was paranoid as hell that the car would roll off the ramps or something bad like that. My wonderful wife was there to help and mentioned that because of the slope of the driveway maybe turning the ramps around would be a good idea. She was right and I worried less. She did the lift while I ran around ensuring no snags and/or forgotten wires, hoses, etc...were all clear. She was a big help!
Mother nature was nice enough not to rain till after the motor was out. I kept begging all day to hold off since the windows were down (stupid me) and the Ttops leak like theyre not even there so I guess it didnt matter much about the windows. So I left the front end hooked to the engine hoist, and shoved it back in the garage...again,easier than I thought it would be...especially since I was by myself ( my wife had to leave). The motor and K member I was not able to do by myself since I have carpet in the gargage, but at least I got it under the eve so it didnt get wet.
Anyway, here are the 3 pics I took today, plus UPS dropped off a nice surpise...

From underneath, I see. I have always done it from the top, but I hear its pretty easy either way. Now that the motor is all out, the real fun starts! Are you going to paint the engine bay and stuff while it's out?
What're you doing with the old crossfire set-up?

Re: I suppose maybe I could start my build thread
It was super easy! The worst part was seperating the drag link from the pitman arm/idler arm. Now on to the mods! Yes, I'm going to paint the engine bay black since I'm doing a color change to black for the KR conversion.
As for the crossfire, I'm gonna start listing it for sale, whole or parts, when I get some time. Prob. in like 2 weeks or so since I have 7 straight at work, then Vegas with my wife, then 4 more @ work.
