Paging Mr. Pocket
Hey Pocket i need a little bit of help. as you know i pretty much have my swap done. the only factory gauges i dont have workign at the moment is my water temp and speedo. i have the VSS signal ran from the ecm to my dash but get nothing. I heard that i should bypass the ecm and go straight from the vss itself.
everything is 2001 5.3l 4l60e.
this is one of the wiring diagrams i went off of.
any help is greatly appreciated and i did try searching but was finding all sorts of different answers.

i'm no pocket, but i may be able to help
water temp - what are you using for a sensor? the factory lsx sensor is a 2 wire and only sends a signal to the pcm. however, you can use a 98 fbody sensor to do both jobs since its a 3 wire setup. otherwise you're going to have to add another sensor for the gauge.
speedo i cant remember right now, but i'll dig through my info if someone else doesnt beat me to it

Re: Paging Mr. Pocket
the vss signal from the PCM is the correct signal for your speedo. The speedo input is at the c207 connector by the stock ECM location.
1A Dan is correct on the coolant temp issue.
good luck with it!

yeah i know the coolant temp one just havent got around to doin it.
the speedo is where im havin issues mostly. so if i run the signal wire to the vss pin on the c207 plug it might work?

alright so i tried several different ways to get the speedo to work and got nothing.
i thought of something though. cause when i turn the car on the needle does kinda move down. maybe when i did my overlays i didnt put the needle in the right place?

Re: Paging Mr. Pocket
Thats a good question. I can personally vouch for Pockets diagrams that your using as I used them myself as I'm sure several others did, so I don't believe thats your problem.

Re: Paging Mr. Pocket
If your car was originally a TPI or V6 car, you should hook up the speedo at the C207 connector
however, if it was a TBI car, you need to bypass the VSS Buffer box first.

Re: Paging Mr. Pocket
it was a tpi car. i tried hookin it up to the red wire (pin P) on the c207 plug several different ways. i tried hooking the vss signal to it, and tried tapping into both vss low/high to it but got nothing.
although lookin at this diagram it looks like im on the wrong pin for the VSS on the c207. looks like i need to be on the grey wire (pin D)

Re: Paging Mr. Pocket
You don't need to move the needle, just have the tune set for the gears you are running
sounds like the computer is programmed for a 2.73 rear, and you have a 3.23 or something to that extent....
glad you got it working though

Re: Paging Mr. Pocket
Sorry I missed this. Yes,90-92 V6/TPi cars use C207 pin D. 90-92 TBI and all previous years with an electric speedo use pin K and bypass the buffer box
