92 RS 5.0TBI T5 - LT1/T56 Swap Thread Progress

Ah, so it's been a great ole time this winter in my one car garage doing everything. Anyhow, I'm selling the 5.0 motor which ran perfect, just wasn't enough power for me. I just sold the wc trans with a bunch of stuff for $750, and pretty much this has been quite the experience.

The stickies written are outdated and many of the questions remain unanswered like.... there's no clear description or example of WHAT you need to do in order to make your fuel lines work.

There's also no clear indication on what kind of fuel pump people have used. Fuel pump isn't even listed in the sticky, it's just known that you can reuse a tpi fuel pump, not a tbi becuase of the low pressure.

People are also very confused about what radiator hoses. I will figure that out personally and provide pictures with what part numbers I used and what I did if I modified them.

The list below is for reference, for my records, and for anyone that is wanting to attempt this swap. Some things I bought that weren't "necessary", but might as well change them since the engine is out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I need: (about $1990.89~ remaining not including rear end parts)

Engine
- LT1 (pending sale atm...70k slp motor for 1300 shipped)

- A way to manually tune the engine myself, as I may go with a lt4 hot cam

Clutch Hydraulic Primary Rod Length
- To modify hydraulic primary rod length as it's too long = reduce length somehow

Fuel Pump
- 255lph ($150~?)
- ?Unknown right now?

Fuel Pressure Regulator
- ?Unknown right now? Would prefer one that's a dial under the hood
- ($25-$100?)

Fuel Lines
- ?Unknown right now? I'm not going to use tommy (z28ricer), stole people's money before.
- ($..no clue)

PS Lines
- For the HP Line - 95 Impala SS
- AdvanceAutoParts - 91780 - $36.99
- For the Return Line - PS line, it sells by the foot
- ???

Radiator Hoses
- For the Lower Hose - Buy a 87-93 Mustang 5.0 upper hose (~$12)
- For the Upper Hose - 95 roadmaster upper / 95 camaro Z28 (~$10)

Exhaust
- Y-Pipe - Hedman - 17478 - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-17478/?rtype=10 - $125.95
- Headers - Hedman - 68479 - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-68479/?rtype=10 - $255.95

Re: 92 RS 5.0TBI T5 - LT1/T56 Swap Thread Progress

Guess no one is interested in swaps anymore unless it's a LSx. :-\
Was hoping to finally put to rest some of the most questionable things, like hydrualics, hoses, etc.
Will update as I progress

Re: 92 RS 5.0TBI T5 - LT1/T56 Swap Thread Progress

All of your questions in your first post were answered in my LT1 swap guide which unfortunately no longer exists.

1. There are a number of different ways to do this, up to you. I ran a barbed fitting on both lines with adapter fittings to get to whatever the 3rd gen fuel fittings are, then heated/pressed the plastic LT1 fuel lines onto the barb fittings. Never had any problems with it. Someone made a set of nice fuel lines for a while but I haven't seen them recently, don't know if they're still being made.

2. "TPI fuel pump works" is a pretty clear indication. Any replacement pump for a TPI car will work. Walbro 255 is the most popular.

3. LT1 Corvette upper and F-body lower if memory serves correctly. Been too long since I've done it. I used cut-to-fit hoses for a while with no issues.

As far as your list:

Clutch hydraulics - don't modify anything. You're doing something wrong if you are changing the rod length.

Fuel pump - covered

FPR - stock LT1

Fuel lines - that's who I was thinking of. not surprised.

Everything else looks pretty good. Honestly I'd stay away from 4.10 gears though. They're fun, but I took mine back out and went with 3.73's.

Re: 92 RS 5.0TBI T5 - LT1/T56 Swap Thread Progress

Anymore progress on this? It's looking like I'll end up selling my other toy, so I'll have a bunch of money to dump into my 92 RS.
