Anyone running 4" exhaust?

Plans are to add a supercharger so Im looking to get rid of the duals and run a single 4". Been looking at the Hawks kit, but not sure how much of it I'll beable to use since I have a bmr trak pak installed. Anyone have any installed/ground clearance pics.

Re: Anyone running 4" exhaust?

I am running a Mufflex system with a custom Y pipe connecting to the LSX swap headers. Not running the actual BMR track pak, but do have a custom made cross bar that was based on the BMR design, but with dual 1" tubes running across.

With the cross bar running under the 4" it does hang low, especially since the car is lowered by an inch. I have not had any clearance issues under normal street driving, however I fear parking lot speed bumps and my incline driveway at the point where it levels out into the garage.

Check out my build thread for pics of the system.

That is a 3.5" pipe, not 4". It tucks up high and is made for a double hump trans crossmember. Also has v-band joints everywhere except muffler and one slip joint at y-pipe. High quality unit made by Stainless Works.

The Hawks Sinister torque arm is meant to be used with it and the mounting bar has a hump in it for the exhaust. Sinister is made by UMI and is a mid-length arm like the BMR Trak Pak.

Depending on your power goals you might want to consider the 3.5" too. The 4" is DEEP at idle and LOUD under throttle. It can set off car alarms when taking off from a parked position.

I like it though, on the highway cruising in 6th at around 1600 it is a nice hum and not loud at all until you get on it.

Re: Anyone running 4" exhaust?

As long as I can still have a conversation while cruising I'll be happy. The duals did a great job at keeping the exhaust note tame. Not sure what to expect as far as power goals, think Id be happy with 650-700.

This is the kit I was looking at: http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ha...aust-system-4/

Was thinking I could build the ypipe and add the muffler I wanted if I went this route

Nice kit, it should work perfect. Same mounts as the Mufflex, which is very strong. Looks like it swedges to 3" in the picture??

Sounds wicked in that vid, but being straight through I am sure it would be a police magnet without a muffler added.

Re: Anyone running 4" exhaust?

I just swapped in a 5.3 LS and dabbed my own dual 3" to 4" ypipe with flow master merge and a 4" catback from bends. Total cost was $300 about and that includes 2 mufflers and all most of the formed sealing band clamps. I'm going with the hooker maximum flow muffler in the stock location and a dynomax ultra flow where the turndown pipe would be on the driver side. Got it all in except I'm waiting on the hooker muffler. Two muffler with a total 30" case length should keep it pretty quiet. Easiest place to add a muffler is in the intermediate pipe but 4" doesn't leave much room around the floor and driveshaft. I have mine tucked up real nice so I don't have room for the 6" case DIA of the dynomax ultra flow muffler. My stock tank is sumped so it's even more Annoying to run a muffler in the stock location. The dynomax didn't fit well bc it hit the sump and put it at an angle.
