Lt1 swap sensor question

Trying to finally finish my lt1 swap and im stuck. Putting coolant in the car and its leaking from what looks like a sensor in the block above the oil filter. Anyone know what the sensor is and why its leaking coolant?

Re: Lt1 swap sensor question

The sensor above the oil filter is for oil pressure. There is no coolant there. Unless you have a oil cooler there and that's not a sensor in the block, it's in the cooler...but I've never seen a cooler have a sensor. My guess is your leak is from above that and it looks like the sensor is leaking. Possibly the crossover tube at the back of the block going from head to head.

This photo has an interesting note on it about sensors above the oil filter. Got the photo from here: http://shbox.com/1/component_location_views.html

Its a round plug in the block drivers side, it looks to have 3 prongs in a semi u shape and a square piece the coolant is coming out from, i can put my finger on the square passage and stop the coolant leak

Re: Lt1 swap sensor question

there's only 2 ports above the oil filter. I have a crusty LT1 sitting in front of me. One is an oil port and the other goes straight through to the flywheel.

Re: Lt1 swap sensor question

That should be closed. It should be blind and there shouldn't be a sensor in it. Both LT1's I have sitting are like that. Maybe someone did some rigging at some point? The only thing tapped into coolant on the side of block is the drain that got used for the knock sensor. Can you take a picture? It'll probably help us help you.

Re: Lt1 swap sensor question

I thought you meant the hole near the freeze plug, My mistake. Totally a block heater. Could be loose, could have a bad seal. Not difficult to remove but a pain to install new freeze plug as it sits in the car
