Throttle Body Question

Throttle body question coming from a sbc carb set up. I currently have an LS7 intake. If I know I will most likely be upgrading to a larger intake later (say, Fast 102 or MSD 102). Would it benefit me in any way to get a larger throttle body now (102mm) since I don' t have one yet or get one that matches the intake now, and get a larger one later? I know the larger TB won't provide any real benefit since it's bigger than the intake opening but I wouldn't have to buy a new throttle body when I upgrade the intake later. Thoughts?

Re: Throttle Body Question

I would wait until you get the new intake. The new intake and throttle body will require a new tune, especially if it is a Mamo MSD. With the stock intake you aren't really leaving anything on the table by using the stock 90mm unit. Swapping TB's now would require another tune, also, I am not sure if the OEM LS7 intake can accommodate a 102+mm TB unit.

Re: Throttle Body Question

I've heard that a lot of guys have a hard time getting the car to idle correctly with a 102mm throttle body.

When they first came out they did, and it was further complicated by tuners not experienced with them. Its the standard go to now. They are better in every way than first generation ones.
