Re: Got my first car back...
Well, The red LED's worked...
Also got the smoked sidemarkers and turn signals in. Painted a set of needles red that I pulled out of another cluster ready to go.
Now I'm just waiting on the Cluster overlays and my Autometer ES Series Pillar gauges...

Re: Got my first car back...
Here's where I'm at with the pillar gauges;
The 20 year old viper alarm is getting yanked as soon as I'm done with everything. It's been pi**ing me off since I bought it.
I did finish changing out all the switches and **** that had yellow lettering with 85-89 black and white ones. Looks way better. Changed the yellow Z28 dash emblem to red too.
I'm a Marine. We don't tolerate yellow.

Re: Got my first car back...
Thanks man, it was a B!TCH. What made it worse was I tore my rotator cuff in my left shoulder in training and had to do most of the work in the drivers footwell on my back and reaching up...lol
I managed to tap into the Dimmer and ACC power from the back of the fusebox, and I tore out the alarm when I found out they just stuck the power wires under two of the fuses instead of making an effort to do it clean. (I left the wiring to the doors and under the hood to the horn and motion sensor so I could wire a new alarm in without having to wire all that stuff up all over again though) I put in a new accessory fusebox just for the gauges and wired it upwhere it can't be seen too.
I had to cut another hole on the firewall with a drill and my dremel (There was already a badly done hole from the shoddy viper alarm install and at some point I'll widen it out and place a grommet in to clean it up) but I didn't want to run the wires that send signals to the gauges along side the main power line going to the amplifier in case of electrical interferance.
I still have to shop weld in the AIR/Fuel sensor to the exhaust and I'm waiting on a braided line to attach the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail schrader valve (There's no way to attach the sender directly, there's no room and I wouldn't want the sender to be subject to vibration from the engine anyway, so maybe I'll finish up all that next week. The VAC gauge is working fine but I have a bad Vacuum leak right now (I know because the AC works but the vent only blows in defrostor mode) So I'll have to figure that out too.
The pictures I've taken at night with it all lit up just don't do it justice. It looks really cool.

Re: Got my first car back...
It wasn't on craiglist, I was on one of those dealer search websites.
The original owner kept it in the garage for about ten years and then passed away. His wife decided she needed a new car and offered to trade the Z for it about ten years after that and had it towed to the dealership, and that's where I found it.
I found it like an hour after they posted it for sale on a Sunday morning and made an offer for what they wanted for it right then. Signed the papers via E-mail and scanner. I found out when I flew down to LA to pick it up a week later that they forgot to take down the ad and got hundreds of phone calls during that week, one guy offered over $26,000.
I felt like I kicked a** in Vegas again...lol

Re: Got my first car back...
Found this on Ebay a few weeks ago. Original GM, still in the package. Been sittin in some guys garage since the mid 80's. I ninja'd the bid in the last ten seconds and won it for just over$ 800, but was a little surprised when it came in.
I had to strip all the weatherstrip and replace it, and remove the rust from all the mounting hardware. All the double sided tape had to be stripped off too, it was rotten. It was a weekend job.
Now I just gotta get it painted and mount it.

Looks awesome! 91 black Z is my favorite, and I really like the new gauges instead of the ugly yellow ones

I want to know how you have that steering wheel on a 91-92 that had an airbag and are able to pass CA smog without a check light on?

Re: Got my first car back...
The Foglight switch was trickier. I had to cut a piece off the older switch and glue it to the new one (After I cut the same part off the new one) That one sucked but it turned out fine.
Only the airbag light comes on, it doesn't cause a check engine light when you disconnect it. Remove the airbag light bulb from the cluster and that's it.
