Nice car man. How did you get one with that little miles on it? You should be at least mid 15s, mostly because of the gears. I would say 15.2 at best in the quarter mile. That is with a good launch and 60ft time. Just practice your launch, get to the track, and really find out. Later man, nice car.

I put a 85 tpi 305 in my 82 wiring and all. I had an airfoil, ported maf, airbox modification (area under filters cut out), 3.90 gears (non-posi) in a moser 9" (heavier), a shift kit'd 700, a converter (stock diameter converter with raised stall in a vette converter casing), 89 firbird radiator w/electric fan, Hypertech thermomaster w/thermostat, Herb Adams solid control arms and solid panhard, punched cat, stock 82 catback, lightly balded BFG 295/50/15's, belts only to WP, alt, and PS, nothing lightened, stock manifolds, knock sensor disconnected, timing cranked to about 12 degrees, high octane unleaded gas from track, running at sears point (absolute sea level) on a cool night I ran 14.50 on a 14.50 dial three times at like 89 mph w/ a 1.8 60 ft. I know its an 85 not an 86, but I hope this helps.

85 TPI cars had better cams. In 86 they had a smaller cam, the same one in the LG4.

Yea, but make sure you match the cam to your gears and stall. Take it from me, one who made the mistake of just throwing in a cam. You have to match the drivtrain to it. Plus, you might as well just throw in some gears for better lowend while you are putting the cam in. My lowend is nothing now. With the cam in, I can't even chirp the tires from a stop, even if I floor it. I don't make any power until like 3,000rpms, and if I had a bigger stall and a bigger rear gear, I could get there a lot quicker. Those mods are planned, and just a new TC and gears should drop me a second. Good luck with the car.

I have an '86 TPI with the exhaust being my only mod. With a full tank of gas, not prepping the car for the track, and having 2.77 gears, I ran a 15.9. Oh yeah, She also had 186,000+ miles on her at the time of the run.
