Track is at Famoso, near Bakersfield CA. I believe elevation is 600'. Times I posted are not altered, right from time slip.
My IROC is CA smog legal, all smog equipment hooked up and running through single EX with CAT. 18 mpg city 23 hiway and daily driver.

MdFormula350: That is damn good!!!

Here are some times from when my GTA had a TPI

Here's my best ET:
60' - 1.824
330' - 5.534
1/8 - 8.669
MPH - 78.09
1000' - 11.405
1/4 - 13.701
MPH - 97.63

Best 1/8 MPH: 80.09
Best 1/4 MPH: 98.74

Mods:
1989 GTA w/35K miles - stock L98 with stock replacement K&N, ported plenum, SLP runners, adj pressure regulator, air foil, hedman headers and y-pipe, stock exhaust with flowmaster replacement muffler. Stock rebuild 700R4 with shift kit and TCI converter(2000 stall). Stock alum driveshaft. Stock 3.27 geared 9 bolt. 255/50R16 BFG Drag Radials.

I added a small nitrous kit and made 5 runs before the trans went and I pulled the L98 for the LC2.

Here's the best pass:

60' - 1.815
330' - 5.319
1/8 - 8.308
MPH - 82.05
1000' - 10.890
1/4 - 13.052
MPH - 104.29

Best 1/8 MPH: 82.16
Best 1/4 MPH: 105.35

Mods:
Same as above plus 100hp nitrous kit

The trans was slipping real bad with the nitrous, so bad you could smell the burning fluid at the top end of the track each pass.

Steve

All of you are running some damn good times. The real kicker here is that with TPI, all of you are getting extremely good mileage at the same time!!!! Very streetable as well. And most of you are running auto trans which is really not good gearing for 1/4 mile racing. TPI just magically makes up for it!!!!!!
I only took mine out 1 time after putting in my new engine and made 4 passes. I need to go again to make some improvements with my 60' time! Some of you are doing much better than I did. I lowered the pressure to 15 lbs. and heated the tires before launch, but couldn't use any increase in rpm before launch without going up in smoke.

Yeah I've gotten over 25 MPG on the highway!

Some of you are doing much better than I did
I've done chassis work, that helped alot.

Very streetable as well
Since I opted to stick with my stock L98 cam, I have a totally stock feel to the car. Aside from the louder exhaust, you can't tell i've done anything.

Got to love these sleepers...most people at the track are surprised with my times considering my car looks like a stock "heavy" GTA.

BTW....I just tested out the SLP CAI on my car last night....my scans tell an interesting story:

My MAF rate has increased +5% accross the board with a new high MAF rate and strong increase in the 2000-3800 RPM range. It also took me .6 seconds less to accelerate to 91 MPH from 41 MPH. I calculate all this with the log files generated via Moates ECm software, not using the time difference as an actual number, but you can definately see trends in these logs. My guestimate is about .1 faster ET, but we'll have to wait till the track is open to see~

poncho@home::: love it!!!
Got a question, what is a CAI?? Is that the Idle Air Control? I use a MAF too, so this could help me as well.

Only suspension changes I made to my IROC were installing Hotchkis front and rear lowering springs. Not intended for drag racing but great for cornering. Stayed with stock IROC struts and rear shocks. I'm not that unhappy with 1.9 60', but I know I'm wasting a lot of power at launch.

I've had my IROC for 12 years now, I never took it to the drags with the L98, but like you I made logs with all my changes. Had a 1/4 mile section of Hiway 1 I used for tests and an AutoXray scanner. Acurate enough that I could tell if improvements made a difference in MPH at the end. Learned a lot about what makes TPI tick, so when I built my 383, I had a pretty good idea what would work with it. I relied a lot on a company called TPIS.

CAI = Cold Air Intake....not Idle Air Control....

1.9 60ft are not bad...but with your MPH you should be in the low 1.8 range easy....the chassis mods I've done help in both drag and cornering applications...a stiff chassis and suspension is always a good idea when it comes to putting power to the ground. Then all is needed is some stickey tires and we're off to the races....

this is in my 87 Vette stock TPI, stock 1600 stall, stock D36 rear with 2.59 gears on Goodyear F1 street tires. i know there is alot more left in the setup as i did spin alittle off the line on both runs in crap DA.

Mostly stock all free mods K&N open air box, MAF descreened, TB Bypassed, 160* T-Stat, Accel Super Coil, 12* degree advance timing, TPiS Long Tube Headers, Gutted Cat, and No Mufflers. Hayden Tranny cooler. Stock 1600 rpm stall and a 2.59 rear gear with Goodyear F1 D3's at 18.5 psi.

Hey, i just got back from the track tonight. Heres my times with untouched tpi intake with a k&n, air foil, ported maf, tb coolant bypass, advanced timing, gutted cats, hooker headers, an underdrive pulley and lower control arm relocation brackets.

60ft - 2.149
330ft - 5.966
1/8 ET - 9.167
1/8 MPH - 76.41

Man i suck. I spun badly out of the hole. I know it had a lot more in it than that. I sure i could hit 8's with a better 60ft time. What do you all get on street tires?

Mad-Mic: That kicks my *** by a full tenth and 1 mph, and I've got much bigger motor. I'll bet I'm losing a lot because of single EX and running through CAT and muffler, but I wanted to know what my car was capable of running in Smog legal mode. You got me by a tenth in the 60'!!!!

Formula350Scott: Never made a pass on pure street tires just DR's, but I would suspect I would be down there with you if I did. I had 14lbs air in my DR's and would heat them up for about a 3 second burnout, but I still couldn't launch from anything above a dead idle, without going up in smoke. Dead idle launch was my best launch.
To make life easier, I would like to try slicks at 5 lbs. rivited to the wheels like I used back in the 70's. No finese needed just stomp on it and your gone like a rocket!!!!!!

12 degrees????
How do you get away with that????
Do you know how much retard the nox sensor is generating???
What compression are you running?????

I have 10.5 comp. and with unleaded 91 oct. my nox sensor is retarding the timing 8 degrees which means my total advance is about 28, because I have the base timing set to 6 degrees. I put 108 octane unleaded and built a black box with a switch that bypasses the nox sensor output and feeds 9 volts to the ECM. I made my 1st pass with it off and ran a 13.55. Flipped the switch and dropped down to 13.29. But I didn't have enough time to try more advance!!
See if you can figure out your overall timing at WOT, with 12 degrees as a base. I want to try more advance the next time I go, I was thinking about 8 degrees base, giving me about 38 degrees overall with no nox sensor.

i turned it up the old fashion way. timing light and keep turning 2* at a time till she felt right with no knock. i only run 93-94 octane and the 13.18 pass was on 93 octane. i think i might be able to squeeze more timing. i'll have to get back to you about total timing. my motor is bone stock with 60k in miles on a bone stock TPI with a bone stock 700R4 with a stock stall of 1600 rpm. best 60' was last year and it was a 1.81 60' with out my LT headers. with alittle more tuning and some good DA i think i can hit a 12.7-12.8. i still have a few more bolt on's i want to do like pulley kit and air pump eliminator kit and MAT relocation sensor. with a set of DR's i'm hoping for mid 12's on my current setup

BTW this is in my 87 vette so it hooks alittle better than my 82 Z/28

Just got back from the track with new best et & mph:

Best ET: 13.348@102.315 MPH with 1.917 60ft
Best MPH: 13.543@103.087 MPH with 2.026 60ft

That's up from previous 13.783@100.524.

All that was changed was SLP cold air intake and drag radials.

Just for comparison, on my regular street tires I ran 13.87@102.787 with 2.209 60ft compared to last years 13.783@99.7 with 1.92 60ft.

Overall I am very impressed with the improvement the SLP CAI gave me!

Just got car back together, timed it by ear, and headed to the track.

1.891 60'
8.952 1/8 @75.77 mph
14.084 @ 95.80 mph
I also ran a 14.1 @ 96.37mph that same night.

Used to run consistent 14.5's bone stock with K&N.

I dont know what happened at the top end, that should have been a good 13 second run. I am hoping it was due to a crappy Y-pipe, and timing off. Also I had an exhaust (header to head leak you could hear) so bad I thought it was a rocker arm clacking. With that 60' and 1/8th mile I should be in the 13's shouldnt I ? Specs: 5.7, ported TPI, Crane 2032, 1.5 roller tip rockers, AFPR, LT headers, true double roller timing chain, 3:23 posi. I know the timing was off!

2.73's Suck, is that your skunk in your avatar?

poncho@home: Excellent!!!!

I haven't gone back to the track yet, but my first time out I made 3 passes. I already posted my best of the 3 at the top of this thread. My first pass was a 13.42 at 103.52. I pulled the air cleaners out of the Y-box and ran 13.29 at 104.87. Basically proving the engine needs more AIR. I had fuel pressure set to 50 lbs. I modified my Y-box last year and yanked the fog lites and installed a simple ramp to force more air into the Y-Box. I made the top of the Y-Box out of fiberglass, this mod doubles the size of my Y-Box. Here is some pics.

You can see how much thicker my Y-box is in above picture.
This picture shows my air intake opening.

Anyone ?, shouldnt that run have been at least a 13.7. I know 14.084 is less than a tenth from 13, but looking at everyones 60' and 1/8th mile times and mph, you guys are well into the 13's.

1990GTA:
You and I have pretty close to the same gearing. I have a 9 bolt posi with 3.27 gears and a 700R4. I'm pulling into the lites in 3rd gear at about 4900 rpms. Keep in mind a 700R4 has a LONG PULL in 3rd gear. I'm not sure, but I would think you should well down in the 13's. As you said, your timing may have been off. And the last 1/8 mile requires some real kaypass to pull 3rd gear!!!!!

with stock heads/cam I ran a 1.900 60' ET13.59@101.36MPH with the mods listed below. I'm hoping to run low 13's next time i get to the track being I just installed Underdrive pullies and I'm installing a Prominator chip

dude pull a plug and look at it. light brownish grey is good. light grey is lean and dark black is rich. make sure you are running the right psi on your AFRP. fuel pressure should be about 47-48 psi for prime setting. set timing 9-10 degrees advanced and that car will wake up!

your car is running hard out of the hole then dying on it's face. shift between 4700 and 4900 rpm. make sure you have a full tune up atleast 8.5 mm wires and a fresh set of AC Delco rapid fires and get your low to mid 13 second slip!
