3300 lbs

Got the car weighed in street trim again today

not the same scale i used last time but certified to be guaranteed. Dont know the plus or minus but i hope its not nearest 100

bone stock 89 Irocz last year was 3400lbs

This year with new 383 with aluminum heads/waterpump, ministarter, NO INTERIOR at all except for 2 corbeau forza seats with power everything still, power seat, windows etc, and 8 pt roll bar

3300 lbs

So with interior back in, and my slicks/skinnies on the car, i should add 50 or so with new carpet and panels, and knock off 80 lbs for slicks/skinnies, that should put me at 3430lb race weight with 3/8 tank gas or so.

3450 with nitrous bottle

Next up is trying to gut weight from the car via fiberglass hood. I hope atleast 50lbs off the front end. Not sure what else i can get rid of without making it a pure race car

then the 12 bolt or 9 inch so thats alot more weight, plus C5 brakes up front should add a few more lbs

Re: 3300 lbs

I had my car weighed last week and weighed 3350 with full street trim and 1/4 tank of gas. The strange 12 bolt I put in this year only added around 20lbs, but it was in the rear, so thats ok

Re: 3300 lbs

Do you include yourself in the weight?
I had my stock trim IROC-Z on a set of electronic four corner scales.

LF 1014
RF 962
LR 865
RR 804
Total 3649 w/ 200 lb driver and full tank of fuel.

Includes all the options except the A/C.

( I'm hoping the plain jane Camaro I picked up this year will shave three or four hundred pounds.)

Re: 3300 lbs

i got the car weighed at a truck stop... certified J-scales they called them. The CAT scales didnt read this time, but last time it did so idk what was up

no ac and cruise but cruise control doesnt weigh an ounce AC was 25-30 lbs.

Forzas are about 19-20 lbs while stock seats are 29 lbs each. I kept stock brackets including stock power seat driver side. that is a heavy bracket

No rear seats so i figure thats another 40 lbs or so..i didnt weigh those yet

Re: 3300 lbs

I weighed my car at the track this past weekend. My car is pretty much loaded. I added padding for new carpet, leather interior, AC. Car has fiberglass hood, centerline telstar wheels. With me in it with small tool box in back it weighed 3526. I'm ~220. So 3306 without trying to reduce. But, it is a street car with no rollcage, heavier rear, etc.

My question exactly.
I figured the IROC-Z's were about the heaviest of the 3rd gens.
What are the front and rear internal bumpers worth? Maybe 150 lbs combined. I always thought that would be a clever way to lose some weight.

hmmm..... i wonder what mine weighs.. its pretty much a stripped car with 2 seats, 10 point, power windows, steering and brakes.. has the steel hood, glass and ZQ8 wheels and tires.. plus 9", g-force t-5(about 20lbs heavier than stock), and the lakewood bellhousing (damn heavy thing compared to stocker)..

i would guess about 3100 without me.. maybe and 3300 with me.. i'll find out one day

Re: 3300 lbs

i'm running ACC replacement carpet up front, which is worth abunch cause it doens't have the big black matting on the back

no front bumper support (about 30lbs)

manual steering (another 25lbs)

no HVAC to speak of whatsoever, in the engine bay or otherwise

at the time of weigh-in i was running a mickey thompson et drag wheel with hoosier slicks out back, those weigh close to nothing.

'glass hood

fourthgen seats + thirdgen manual racks = superlightweight considering what they are

i don't have a radio in the car currently, nor the speakers.

gfx delete.

1le aluminum driveshaft

i think that's all the major stuff

Re: 3300 lbs

My ACC front carpet and stock rear carpet weigh 33 lbs. panels/headliner/etc should add 10-20 more or so. So i'm about right on with 50lb estimate and i lose 80 with the wheels/tires in race trim. 24 lb nitrous bottle full, thats 3450 race weight....

I plan to get rid of steel hood, and thats about it Maybe tube k-member/a arms but that may not cut the weight.

I dont want a aluminum drive shaft since i probly will break it with the nitrous. Dont want to gut the gfx so thats probly some weight right there. And i'm not gutting power accessorys like seats/windows/locks

I guess 3450 minus 50 for a hood, bringing me to 3400 or so isnt to bad for a street/strip car

geez all you guys are pigs, lol My car w/o me (185lbs) and half a tank of gas is 2900 flat by flying j's scales. I had a slip to prove it but my kids decided to use it for a coloring book. My plan is for a 2800 pound car with me in it. It will take some work but I can do it.

Re: 3300 lbs

just wait till you're fast enough to require a roll-bar and the choice is either install one or don't come back to the track...that added 80-120lbs is tough to get around when you're still wanting to keep all you're interior. or when you need to upgrade to a real rear cause rebuilding 10 bolts just isn't making sense any more...those are real weight issues that can't keep the car light anymore no matter what you try

my goal is a little more realistic, though i havce a solid 100lbs over you just on my person, but i'd like to have a ride that'll run into the 10's with full interior and weigh 3200lbs with me in the car...and still be able to drive up to a cruise-in or to school or to whatever else might peak my interest.

According to the scales at the track that they use for the Sotck Super/Stock classes.....2910 with me in the car. (175#)

8pt cage
VFN lift off hood
TH400
Iron Headed SBC
and enough interior for me to do what I need to do behind the wheel.

Looking to get to 2800 with me in the car by spring.

Planning to remove crash bars from the doors, lexan windshield, mini-starter, lexan T-tops, and possibly changing to Wilwood front brakes

You need a 383 and nitrous like me and you'll have 10's in a everywhere driveable car with full interior and just under 3500 lbs I took out my rear seats since they have no purpose in the car anymore with the 8pt bar but the carpet and panels are still in there. still have radio I'll be adding a good 50 more lbs or so over winter with my new setup but a good 150 or so hp more i think hope for 9's

Re: 3300 lbs

Last time I weighed mine it was upper 3600's w/ me at 150lbs, used to be 3300 when I was doing mid-upper 11's. No blower motor, air pump, or washer reservoir, manual brakes and steering, cut up front bumper w/o plastic, mini starter, aluminum heads, th400 and wheels and tires were slightly lighter than stock. Strange 60 axle added 80lbs, 3" steel DS, beefy trans mount and tq arm, 6-point soon to be 10, SFC, and the Procharger/intercooler is probably another 80lbs up front. Probably getting heavier with the big turbo and w/a intercooler I'm planning, but more towards the rear.

last time at the track, 3305, no interior except race seat and dash, aluminum headed factory roller, lots of stuff taken off, need to take about 1k off it, then it will be fun !

Re: 3300 lbs

Factory 1991 Z28 305/5 speed - air delete car (RPO C41) = 3280 lbs w/o driver. Same car with aluminum headed SBC, Moser 9" w/ back brace, and an 8 pt now weighs 3360 w/o driver. Weighed both times at the same Cat truck stop scale. I have no idea how accurate these scales are but they claim to be "certified".

Re: 3300 lbs

the scales are always even round numbers which leads me to believe its plus or minus 20 lbs. And for weighing many tons of weight thats pretty accurate. For a car its abit less desirable

Re: 3300 lbs

I made a mistake when typing the weights. The stock weight was 3280 and the current weight is 3360. I think your right on the 20 lbs increments.
