Glasstek Bolton Hood

I have a 4" cowl induction hood form glasstek and the gentlemen recommended that I put hood pins on the front of the car. How fast are you guys going with the bolt on hood without hood pins? If you didnt use hood pins how did you mount the spring on the front of the hood because the stock spring kinda twists into a holder and with the new hood that is not an option. If you have pictures of the stock spring mounted are where you mounted the hood pins that would be awesome. Thanks for the help.

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

spring is deleted basically, and if you don't want to run hood pins you could run hood locks as well. It's to stop the sides of the hood from bending up at speed.

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

maniak what did you do with the spring? Did you just not install it? If it is not installed wouldnt the hood have a little upward play before the hook contacted the metal inside? Thanks for the help

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

yes i left the spring out all together... you just have to adjust the hood stops so there is slight tension on it. so that when you pop it it will release

i don't really have a picture of it...i don't run that hood anymore, it's now a lift off hood...and i'm not sure what i'm going to do for a hood with the new motor going in...if i do it again, i'll be sure to post pictures.

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

Here are the only two pictures I could dig up that sorta show how they mounted the spring upside down on mine. You have to look really hard but it's there. And it does work fine. This was done before i bought it. I would have to take another look to see how they acually did it. At 122 I was thinking the hood was going to fly off the car. It was shaking like crazy, from the front and the back. I don't like hood pins but I don't want to be that guy at the track who's hood frisbies in the air.

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

I was also going to suggest mounting the spring to the body.
I would put hood pins on it, but that's just me.
Not to much work either.

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

part of the reason they want to flutter and stuff is the air exiting the cowl scoop, seal that to the carb and the rear wont flutter...the front, possibly blocking the headlight buckets would help.

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

i just took a piece of sheet aluminum, about 1/2" wide and 4" long, drilled a hole in the very center, then put it in the first rung of the spring, centered it, and wrapped the trailing ends around the spring. put a bolt through the hole that i drilled and mounted it onto the spring pad by the hood latch...the pad i'm refering to would be where the spring would rest with a stock hood. worked out great!

Re: Glasstek Bolton Hood

cool sounds easy can also probably weld a little piece of sheet metal to the bottom of the spring and mount it that way too. Thanks for the idea!
