Whats this 355 TPI combo good for?
I dont really know much about TPI motor and its abilities. My friend has this car and i'm curious to know what potential it has.
Car is 87 Firebird. Weld wheels and glass hood.
4.10's, 5 spd w/ hurst shifter.
Motor is built 355
cam is 218/218 525/525
9.5 compression
ported alluminum L98 heads with bigger valves
headers, 3 inch exhaust
accel gen 6 dfi ( good tune, runs good)
Good ignition and stock TPI with edelbrock runners.
What do you think?

I actually drove the car before and would best describe it as feeling like a strong late model ram air T/A. high 12's I was thinking. Hard to tell with the 5spd behind it. It's a wild ride for sure.

Whats the fastest a stock TPI plenum has been with aftermarket runners? whats it's limit? I'm gonna search around a bit later to see if the answer is out there.

^ Id say deep 10's with power adders. Maybe even single digits for a turbo car.

They can turn some nice numbers. But you better have your wallet open and do your homework. Can't remeber the guys name, but a member on here had a turbo 305 tpi car running mid to low tens.

Re: Whats this 355 TPI combo good for?
I was asking in general whats it's limits are including whatever can be thrown at it. I'm more interested in the N/A numbers but still interested in it's numbers all around.
It looks like I may be getting this car in a trade for some stuff that I have. I drove the car around again last night briefly. It's pretty fast but the GEN 6 needs some tweeking.
The car has built bottom end 10.1 CR
L98 Allum heads that are ported with bigger valves
SLP runners and ported intake
good valvetrain hardware
roller cam 218/218/ 525/525
Has a T-5 and 3.73's (that are broke, figures)
I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get it. I definetely think it's a cool driver/beater car while I work on my blue car. I'm gonna take it to the track soon but be very easy with it so nothing breaks.
I'm hoping for a 12.99 with an easy launch. I would also like to try a 100 shot to run the 12.0 index.

More importantly, WHY use lt1 heads. Takes some money and fab skills to make them work. I gotta think there is a better choice.

Re: Whats this 355 TPI combo good for?
Just have stock plenum but with runners and ported base? Runners wont help as much with stock base as they will with ported base. I can see high 12's out of that setup. Closer to stock LS1 performance I would think. Probably high 200's whp maybe 300whp? I know vette heads/LT4 hotcams have made 300-320whp on aftermarket TPI bases/runners
