Carb spacer
Well, i have a guy from LS1tech pick up 30 HP on the lower end to mid range, peak power was maybe 7 on the top end, but all that lower end power made me jelous, but not enough to spend the 110 on the HVH spacer he had, so, i doubt i gained what he did, but for 15$, i got the 4 hold spacer from Summit and imitated what i saw with my carbide and cartridge rolls, i bet it is better than not opening it up, but i will surely do a dyno comparo with and without when i finally get to the dyno:
Top(what it looked like on the bottom before grinding)

Bottom, made it as even as possible, took about 2 hours to get it the way it is in this pic

With an extra 2 inches, the 4 inch hood still clears of course(i was not sire how much room i had)

What do you guys think? Surely not a waste of 15 bucks i think, but i know i dont have near the R&D that the several companies out there have.
All in the name of a budget HP!

Re: Carb spacer
Carb spacers are tuning aids. What works well on one engine may not work on another. That's why there are 1" and 2" spacers with 4 hole or a single hole. Dyno testing will show which spacer works the best on your engine.
A carb spacer changes the vacuum signal to the carb. It's not uncommon to see a 1" 4 hole sitting on top of a 1" single hole.

Re: Carb spacer
Yea, the engine i am comparing to, was about the same except for the fact i have 18 more cubes, otherwise, it was just something to try for 15 bucks.

Re: Carb spacer
Any reputable dyno shop should have every imaginable spacer to test. It can sometimes be the cheapest 10-30hp gain.

Re: Carb spacer
saw your post first on tech, but it looks great!
sure would be awesome to have paid .50$ per HP increase?

Re: Carb spacer
Thanks, it is a good learning experience on top of just getting a HP gain for so cheap, like i said, even if it is half of what a HVH version or Wilsons would get.

Re: Carb spacer
I have a HVH super sucker and yours look pretty close, the cone in the middle needs to come together a bit more but, the low end torque you get is incredible, and the carb response before and after are unquestionable. Now go get some tires that`ll hook on that thing and then lets see what it does with the new found power

Re: Carb spacer
A trip to the tack will come soon enough after i remove the bumpers, door bars and carpet. I want to get as much out of it as i can the next trip i make to the 1/8th mile.
Traction was not that bad with nitto 555Rs, but then they went bald and traction was NEARLY as bad with them bald as these suck **** radials that are on it now.
4.30 gears dont help the radial issue, LOL.
Is it just me or does my car sound WAY better inside than outside? Kind of dont like the outside sound in the throttle, idle is cool.

Also my GM throttle cable won't reach over that far so it'll have to wait until the spring or I switch to a lokar cable that I bought. Thread Starter

Re: Carb spacer
I made some adjustments to make my stock cable work, LOL. But it is fine. I am really using my cowl hood, in the video you can really see the air cleaner in there through the cowl now, i still have a bit of room left.

Re: Carb spacer
Well with a 14x5 air filter and nitrous plate my hood wouldn't close, with a 14x3 filter and plate it will. If I remove the plate and toss on the spacer I'm 90% sure the hood still wont close with an air filter. This is with my motor as low in the chassis as possible and a 4" glasstek cowl hood. The super victor is much taller than your vic jr intake. It's 1.2" taller from edelbrocks website.

Yea, i think i might get a drop base air cleaner if i need to, otherwise, i need a K&N filter to replace my paper piece that is on the car now.
I originally bought a glasstek hood, 4 inch, was nice, 250 bucks, flew out the back of my truck on the way home

Re: Carb spacer
ouch, didn't have it strapped down? When moving hoods I usually wrap them in blankets then run an "x" pattern over the hood with ratcheting straps and prop up the edges so it's pretty tight in there. I'm running a drop base on my filter as well, I'll have to play with the heights, maybe have the bottom 1/4" or 1/3" machined off the spacer and then it'll fit, only time will tell.

Re: Carb spacer
Oh, okay. I'm really curious to see what it comes out to
Ever think about trying this with a 1" spacer as well? Or is it pretty much guaranteed that a 2" will give you more gain
