LSX LQ4 1/4 guesses?
Hey guys, My cars almost done and I currently have a 6 point cage in my car and need to know what else I will need to be ready for the track so what do you think it will run.
1984 88 Formula clone
LQ4 370ci 480 rwhp
LS3 heads
Custom big LS3 cam
Hawks 1 7/8" headers
4l80 with brake and 4500 stall
Moser 9" 4.30 gear
28" slicks
Car weights 3200 with me in it.
What do you think it will run?I also have nitrous on it. What do you think it will run if I hit it with the 150 shot? Thanks,Dustin

That would only be 8.89-9.2 in the 1/4 if I am reading right.

Re: LSX LQ4 1/4 guesses?
I wasnt really worried about how fast it went I just wanted it to pull the wheel(s). I have v6 springs up front with Competition engineering adjustable drag shocks in the front, v6 springs in the rear with adjustable competition engineering shocks in the rear, SFC, Lakewood LCA, Adjustable Panhard bar, and the jegs tunnel mount torque arm.

i second having too much gear for the 1/4 though, with the spray. i was going through the traps at 6400rpm's with my 4.11's. i just got some 4.30's to put me through the traps at ~6700rpms, which is where i shift at. this is for my n/a 370 with less cylinder head than you have. i'd imagine you'd go through the traps at 6900ish on motor. i think your setup will be good for 10.6's before the 150 shot. the 150 shot will probably put you in the 9.7 range.

Re: LSX LQ4 1/4 guesses?
The 4.30 cam in the car when I bought the moser 9". I figured I may be ok with them since it's a 4 speed tranny. What if I go to a little taller tire?
The motor is actually built for a 250 hp hit of nitrous, but I figured 150 would suffice.
Can anyone tell me when a 6 point cage is no longer enough. I can't find it.

Both haha. I want it fast on motor cause it's gonna be a street car 80% of the time. The nitrous probably won't be used a ton, but when I use it I wanna go really fast.

Re: LSX LQ4 1/4 guesses?
call greg at FTI. i think he's done a good bit of 4l80 converters. dont ask for a stall speed, tell him what youve got. actually, you need to fill out a sheet with all your engine info and stuff so you can send that to him. stall speed will be lower, like 3500ish. look to spend around 900-1200 for one. (maybe more if you retain the lockup ability?)

No its a Jegster 4 point. I installed it. Total pita by the way. The kit is seriously about 2 feet too long on the main hoop. The door bars I just bought some steel I needed and went to town with my bender, chop saw, notcher, grinder and tig welder haha. Im going to go ahead and make it a 10 point so I will be good till 8.50 after inspection and my license.

Re: LSX LQ4 1/4 guesses?
any of them will work, just make sure you buy them for a moser housing. THEEEE best one with the most adjustability are the racecraft ones with like 9 holes on them, but they are the most expensive and you'd cut off the entire LCA mount and weld theirs on. The typical choice is the 3 hole ones that UMI, BMR, spohn, etc all sell the same thing and you weld them to the bottom of your stock LCA so no issues with alignment.

Agreed. That black Camaro with no GFX does look pretty sick but i bet id still like it a little better if it was all decked out with the Iroc or Z28 stuff. Firebirds can pull it off better somehow, idk why lol. Id love to do an LQ4/T56 swap at some point, just cant bring myself to butcher such a well documented car >_< damn me and my sentiment hahaha

not mine, but one of my all time favorite cars, Jeff Moyer's drag radial car. haven't seen him around here in a while though, goes by radialtireking most places.

LOL, Looks like the beater third gens i see from the hood.
Find a rolling body and do it to it!
You pull it off my friend.
Not ugly, but matts being white with black here and there, just makes it work for some reason.

Close enough...
It's kind of fun to see the new paint, pizza-cutter fronts, big-tach shift light, stripped interior, race seat, roll bar cars in the staging lanes with you, and know you outrun them by a second or better.

Oh yea, my shoddy paint has surprised plenty on the street and track. But that think looks like the old v6 or 305 car on its last leg.

Re: LSX LQ4 1/4 guesses?
I got some more work done on Friday night. I didn't come into the house till about 4 am, Made for a long day considering I had been up for over 2 days since I work 3rd shift.
I pulled the Trick springs and cut 1 full coil off each side lowering it about 2". It still has a ton of ground clearance on it.
Yes, that is a stock hood. I have a Victor jr and a big carb. I have about 2" of space between the carb and the hood for anyone that things that it will never work. I saved myself $550 by trying to put it on even though everyone said know way. I couldn't even begin to tell you how happy I was that it all fit.
