Date with a mustang on saturday night.

I have a 28,000 mile 91Z28/LB9/700R4 with following. KnN's, gutted aribox, ported plenum & runners, TB water bypass, no cats-ex. cutout now in place, dynomax catback, performance resourc chip, and 3.73's. Rod's car is a 38000 mile 92 mustang 5.0 convertible/AOD with the following. 3.73's, equal length shorties, no cats and magnaflow mufflers. Any bets on who would will win at the 1/8th mile track this saturday night? The mechanic who put in both our gears said my car leaves alot harder but once they get going above 40 they pull about even.

Here's my and rod's times on a .500 tree. 1st. me RT-.808, 60-2.07, 1/8- 9.59 mph-74.74, Rod RT-.748, 60 2.24, 1/8-10.18 mph-72.81. 2nd me RT-.704, 60-2.049, 1/8-9.41, mph-76.52, Rod RT-.814, 60-2.27, 1/8-10.29, mph-70.77. 3rd I was up against a wild chevy nova II. I had a .692/2.1/9.60/67mph, to his .669/1.70/7.445/97.33. I spun bad on 3rd run as I was nervous and let off at the end. Both the second and 3rd run were with ex. cutout off and running open exhaust made my car alot squirrelier off the line. Alot of people said a 305 needs backpressure or you'll have no torque, that is a crock as my 1st and 2nd were almost back to back and I picked up with a warm car, it was 80 today. How are my times for the mods I have listed? Just glad I was on the winning end of the battle with Rod.

Your car definately has *****. 9.4 in the 1/8 works out to about a 14.3 or 14.4 in the 1/4 with a good launch. Did you really think the Mustang had a chance? Please, AOD Mustangs are a joke, that tranny, with its abominable ratios and sloppy shift characteristics, kills an otherwise very quick car.

No I really did not think he would beat me because a vert is heavier and I know the aod is a waste. But this guy has had his car in the shop for the last 2 weeks getting ready for today. Never know how much a desperate guy may go.

Grove creek is the name of the place. Only 20 min. away, usually have 250 cars. Brainerd Intl. is closest 1/4 2hrs away but never raced there. Easier and shorter day to hit the 1/8.

There is a dude that has a 69 440 road runner that was running 9.2's last weekend. He works as a mechanic at the local chev. dealer. I told him he better watch out or I may sneak up on him before the day was over. The partsman from the dealer said yeah that would not go over very good at work getting beat by a 305. Now the road runner guy is telling everyone that I have done everything to my engine possible. When in reality I have never pulled a valve cover, just IMO the common bolt ons. If anything he told me his engine is a stock rebuild and when you look at the engine it has aftermarket intake, aluminum radiator, full MSD, headers, demon carb, cam and I heard he ported the heads. He is running stock converter and 3.20 something gears. I will beat this guy a week from sunday as my charge card has been used this week. I guess if I am going to be labeled as a "cheater" I better start cheating.

Come on up GN. Grove City MN sunday the 15th. But for you I would have to pull out my other car, and according to your time in your sig, your trip would not be worth it. A 79 5.0 mustag coupe with a driver seat, 10.5:1compression, full MSD, ported stealth intake, Comp cams 280H, TFS heads, Holley 650 HP series carb, longtube headers, Dr. Gas syncho crossover, dynomax bullett race magnums with turndowns, Performance automatic prepped C-4 with 3000 stall, 4.10's, weld big N lil's wtih 275/50/15 and VW tires up front, 4 cyl. front springs, glass hood, no sway bar, no air, no p/s, no p/b. Best time is a 7.445@97.33 with a 1.703 60' time, if I knew how to post copy of timeslip I would. My camaro was supposed to be my daily driver but just can't seem to leave anything alone hehe.

Hey Mark,

Youre right I cant touch that , but look at my sig real CLOSE, I was only on my street chip , my REAL RADIALS, and nowhere near max boost, and my car is COMPLETE(full interior, all power and 3800pd with driver)I will be on Drag Radials from now on as my NIttos have arrived, and I am going to my Race chip and will be rasing the boost to 22# for test and tune with 25 being the final goal, I am expecting some 11.90's with that combo, I also have a bigger turbo waiting in the wings that should take me to 11.70's. I am to far from you but know of some GN's close that would race you with the stang.

Later

ALSO There is a BIG Mustang/GN shootout in Nov 18th in Oklahoma City, maybe you can make that???

Shrp1 I am not taking the bait over the internet on who has the faster car. I like fast rear wheel drive american made cars. I wish I had a turbo GN, there is even a guy who runs a stock GN at the 1/8 mile track and does quite well with it. No interest in coming to that shootout, sounds a little high profile for me. Just curious your gonna run 25lbs of boost, how safe is that? Seems like there are plenty of tech questions on different boards on blown head gaskets with 15lbs of boost on various camaros and mustang sites. Later

No interest in coming to that shootout, sounds a little high profile for me. HIGH PROFILE< THERE WILL ONLY BE ABOUT 100 CARS PER SIDE YOUD BE LOST IN THE MIDDLE< NO PAY OUTS JUST BRAGGIN RIGHTS FOR THE NEXT YEAR

Just curious your gonna run 25lbs of boost, how safe is that? VERY SAFE AS LONG AS I KEEP GOOD FUEL AND THE RIGHT AIR/FUEL RATIO.

Seems like there are plenty of tech questions on different boards on blown head gaskets with 15lbs of boost on various camaros and mustang sites. I THINK THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE ARE TUNING WITH A DIFFERENT IGNITION SYTEM AND HIGHER COMPRESSION ENGINES TO START WITH. Later
