TA cooling

So, fellow Trans am owners, is there anything I should know about keeping the car cool with a 3 speed auto? Was hitting 200 last night with a 165 stat, factory fan and a pusher that is 14" on the front of the Trans cooler.

My camaro with the t56 worked great with a stock radiator, same fan. I knew the added RPM may be a issue so I got the champion aluminum 3 core. Was ok cruising at 60, but at 75 and 3200 rpm it was at 200 and not liking it.

I want to look at the twin setup Matt has, but the sealed front end on the TA is a real killer for us.

Re: TA cooling

Cannot imagine the lack of cooling it will have with the 4.30s, still has 3.23 right now.

Re: TA cooling

^^^exactly what I was going to use but got the 300zx fan assembly for free. I used an ls1 fan on my moms bird and it keeps it nice and cool, but running an OD trans in it.

Re: TA cooling

lt1 fans look the same to me and would probably cost half as much since they arent associated with "LS1". lol

Re: TA cooling

Ls1 fans with shroud really helped my car but it stilll runs 200 in the warm days. I need an oil cooler i think but a strong fan with a shroud is the key to getting air thru rad. Then look into modding the air dam to force more air up into the engine bay nose. Maybe make a plastic extension on the air dam. I may try doing this on mine to help with airflow even tho its a maro not a bird, they still breath mainly thru the bottom

Re: TA cooling

^ The airdam is a huge key to sorting out the cooling system with the closed nose. Gotta keep the hot air from re-circulating back in front.

Re: TA cooling

I have a metal air dam I made that extends a but lower than stock, maybe a half inch. I was thinking of using a spring setup to pull it forward so at speed it is not flexed back. That and the fans will hopefully solve my issue.
