Prom Burning Education
I have a 1989 Trans Am project that is close to being finished, but I am having the hardest time getting the prom burning figured out to get this thing running. Unfortunately, I jumped in head first on a no where near stock engine. I'm hoping someone can help me get this thing started, and hopefully teach me a couple things along the way. Get in touch, and let's discuss rates. In Seattle, Washington by the way.
Thanks!

If you want to risk your car call Blood Enterprises, they can do it but it may cost you your car.
But I have given up dealing with Proms & I am going with a system called Mega Squirt will cost ya right about 1k to get everything that you need & its bascailly a plug & play system.

AmorgetRS! It's been a while! What are you up to these days? Yeah, the car is still sitting I just want to get it done now, and am willing to pay someone. I tried my hand at tuning, but I can't even get the car to start. I'm thinking about using Dyno Desktop to rough in the VE tables, but aside from that, I'm pretty much lost. I'll keep ya posted. Do you still travel around the hometown much? I noticed you are 'near Seattle'. I'm actually living in Seattle now. We should catch up. You still have the TA?

Is it that far from a stock 350 that using a stock 350 bin you can't get anything?
I've always been near Seattle I am still in Stanwood, in fact my house is on Camano Island now. I heard from the NAPA guys about you moving to Seattle. I still have my 88, right now I am driving my 91 GTA though.

Re: Prom Burning Education
How much effort are you willing to devote to this? If you are looking for a quick fix, go with the above. But if you are willing to put some time & enerbgy into doing this, then go to DIY Prom and we may be able to help you. But, you MUST buy the eprom burning equipment (which is FAR CHEAPER than the oterh options PLUS you will learn a lot in the process...like how to tune an engine).
Tuning an engine is much easier than most people think...but it does require some committment on your part.
If you are willing to make that committment, then come over to DIY Prom. Else, consider the alternatives already mentioned.
Sorry, but I am out-of-town right now, so I may not be able to respond to any post on DIY Prom for a few days (and please...no PMs...I do not want private discussions. I want to discuss everything on the Message Boards so others can see what's discussed and can either learn or join in the discussion).

Re: Prom Burning Education
Yes, burning and tuning is fairly easy, once you get to know all the stuff. I like to start off with a basic timing map, ramp your timing up similar to a normal mechanical advance style timing map, that will give you a descent starting timing table, and once that is pretty easy to work with. The idle area timing, you may need to play with a little, especialy if you have a larger cam in there. After that, since you are MAF you luckily have less work than us MAP guys. You just start looking at the data, and where the computer is either way off, or making larger fuel corrections, and start adjusting your MAF tables. The only hard part, is getting WOT fueling. To really do this right, you need a wide-band o2 sensor.
The key, is to make small changes, and track all your changes, and systematicly start going through and getting it going.

Re: Prom Burning Education
MAP is basicly the same process, just more cells to fill in for fueling, as the tables are larger. No big deal. If you are running MAP, one hint, is to combine the secondary fueling table, into the first one where you can, so you don't have to figure in changes for both of them. Same goes for timing, I like to simplify the tables where I can, so that I have less other stuff going on, and can make all my changes in the fewest number of tables possible.
And, the good news is, things are a lot easier now than they were a couple of years ago. I am pretty sure that the new version of tunerpro have some auto-tuning stuff, that will take you datalogs and automaticly adjust stuff based on the BLM's and such. There are a lot of neat tools out there now for doing this.
