3 relay firebird headlight.. .experts only
okay... here's the story... orginally, my car's headlight doors only flipped down, and not up, after replacing the relays for each door i got the driver side to go up and down!!! . however, my passenger side still only goes down. the isolation relay (the one near the radiator) was not replaced. could this be the cause of the passenger side still being faulty, or could it be something else.. thanks

It's possible but did you also check the fusible links that go to each of the two actuator relays. They are located in the headlight wire bundle near the left side of the radiator.

the fusible links are connected and good. but i need to know if the isolation relay needs to be replaced, or if the wires going to the headlight relay (that i already replaced) are bad.

there are two blue wires coming out of the iso relay, one has a white trace. Each blue wire goes straight to a headlite door motor. When your headlite switch on the dash is off, both of those blue wires should have +12V-They provide the +juice for the door motor down circuit. There are two seperate sets of contacts in the iso relay- one for each door down circuit,, switched on by one coil.. I've seen one set of contacts go bad, causing the symptoms you are having..You can prove the defect by cutting into the insulation of the blue wires and checking for +12V on both wires..With the dash headlite switch shut off..

Just follow the treasure map, "X" marks the spot in the headlight wire harness near the left side of the radiator shroud.

Re: 3 relay firebird headlight.. .experts only
I have a very odd problem of a similar nature. 1997 Firebird. Recently the headlights were requiring that I switch them off and then back on a couple time to get the lights up and on. Keep in mind I have no motor run-on or grinding occuring. Anyway, now the problem is much worse. If the car is off, the headlights operate perfectly. However, if I start the car the headlights come on and I cannot shut them off. Occasionally, they will stay down, but the lights are on in the closed position. I have checked all fuses and cleaned all available connectors - including on the isolation relay. I cannot locate the fusible links, the main headlight module, or the actuator relays. Is ANYONE familiar with this problem? I am eight hours into this and frustrated as hell.
