Stock shift points for 700R4?
What are the WOT, stock shift points for a 700R4 in RPMs, for the 1- 2 shift, 2-3 shift, and 3-4 shift?

Re: Stock shift points for 700R4?
its hard to get the exact shift points, but before i installed my shift kit mine shifted at 2800- 1-2 shift, 3100-2-3, and around 3600 for 3-4. But now my shift points are all higher then that due to the shift kit bein installed. but these points are when i leave it in drive not when i manual shift.

The only one I remember before I built my 700 r4 was that 1st gear stock shifted at 4,200 rpm on mine

I'll go for a drive tomorrow and find out. As far as I know, my car is bone stock other than the suspension stuff I have done.

Assuming that the TV system is working correctly, and the TV cable is adjusted correctly, the inner and outer governor weights, and the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 shift valves, and the spring operating the shift valve, etc. determine what rpm the engine will shift at any throttle opening. The high rpm Corvette governor and valve body are matched to give apx. 5,800 rpm WOT shift points. The high rpm Z-28 governor and valve body are matched to give apx. 5,500 rpm WOT shift points. Typical V-8 governor and valve body are matched to give apx. 4,800 - 5,200 rpm WOT shift points. Then the diesel.

Re: Stock shift points for 700R4?
This is what I got for shift points.
1-2: 4,800
2-3: 4,600
3-4: I was already going 87 in a 65 zone half way through third so I figured I should shut it down.
I don't think this should matter to shift points but I have the stock 2.73 rear gears.

5500 RPM when mine was 100% stock. The 1-2 would shift a bit higher. Around 5800'ish.

Mine also shifts somewhere between 5500-5800. Right when my tach hits the orange. As far as I know, it's bone stock.

My Tac shows me shifting at 5500 RPM at WOT. My laptop and Datamaster program tells me it is shifting at 5000 RPM at WOT.

The 700R4 Throttle Valve Cable Corrector Spring is to help part throttle shifts that are too early, it will make them later. It does not change WOT shifts.

Re: Stock shift points for 700R4?
I stomped my G20 van after putting the original stock 1983 Governor in it and it held right up to 5,000 rpm on both the 1-2 and 2-3 shift. By the time I hit 3rd gear and went a few seconds with 3.08s and 29" tall tires I was running 100+ in a 70 so I shut it down.

Re: Stock shift points for 700R4?
Thanks, and one more question for you. The previous owner (I've had the car a couple of months), said the trans was rebuilt with a "Corvette servo". What affect would that have on an otherwise unmodified 700R4? Could it be a factor in my low WOT shift points?

Re: Stock shift points for 700R4?
im kinda having a hell of a time getting my 700 i built up to shift at the time id like.
The part throttle is way to low for me but when i get it pretty close to what i want, the 1-2 shift bounces off my rev limiter a few times at 6K then shifts, but the next shift is aobut perfect at 5300 or so...
Kinda sounds like i need that tv spring.
Honestly my main concern was the 2-3 shift was way to early, it would just barely bind (shift overlap i assume) on the first shift it makes when i take it out, i still dont know why, but with the part throttle shifts jacked up a little bit, u dont see the problem anymore. not to hyjack just wondering.

Re: Stock shift points for 700R4?
The Corvette Servo just has a bit larger surface area on the pistons for a stronger/firmer shift. It will be a bit better for the band that way. I think it does more for shift quality than anything else.
