Turbo Measuresments. Help me determine what this TD08 can do.

Guido, 83 crossfire TA, all you turbo experts please give me a hand. A guy around here has what i hope will be a usable turbo in great shape for me... i just have to find out exactly what its capable of.

Its a mitsubishi TD08 turbo. I am told the compressor is the same as the greddy t-88 and these push 700 or more rear wheel hp on supras in their kits. Its believed that it was off an earthmover of some sort. I have been able to find very little info. I was told it might be similiar in compressor map to a T-72 and if so, this is the turbo i will be going with. Its for a 350...15 lbs of intercooled boost.

Some serial numbers (the tag was a bit scratched:

TD08 - 9 (the letter L has been associated with this at one point but it was not written on the turbo itself)
Serial NO _ _ 0789 (blanks indicate missing numbers)
MFD NO 49188-01252

The measurements:

compressor inlet - 2.825"
compressor outlet- 2"
diameter of compressor housing base ~ 6.25"
impellor inducer ~2.75"-2.825" (very hard to measure)
impellor exducer ~4" (once again very hard to measure)
distance from center of impellor to the middle of the inlet of the compressor ~ 5.25"

exhaust outlet - 3"
exhaust turbine - 3"
it has a t-4 split flange for exhaust in.

Couldn't measure the area of the exhaust inlet scroll cross section because it was a split flange...that might be published though?

I will have pics for you guys tomorrow and can get any other measurements that you may need and maybe to a more refined degree though these are pretty accurate as far as i am concerned. Perhaps the number of fins on the impellor would be helpful?
Basically, the inlet and outlet of the compressor seem tiny when compared to the body of it. What is that design conducive of?

Check out the image below. It is the only one i have been able to find of a TD08. Comparing it even to the TD07, the turbo is larger itself but look at the inlet size...that must be designed that way for a reason. I'm worried its a big huge turbo that doesn't actually move that much air.

Now that i've looked more indepthly at that picture. I don't see how this TD08 can be the same as greddy's T-88...the inlet to total turbo compressor size ratio is way off.
Thanks guys,
Jay

Wow, that's actually physically smaller then I expected it to be.

I was wondering what happened with this. Like I told you in the private emails… that turbo is listed as coming from a 185hp Mitsubishi earth mover. General rule of thumb is that barring other information you can usually double diesel hp numbers when trying to figure out how much power a turbo can support on a ignition engine…

The compressor inlet and wheel size is fairly large like I expected, but the outlet is small and the whole turbine side is tiny.

None of this changes any of the other predictions that I sent you except that maybe it might spool better then I expected (any A/R or nozzle size markings on the turbine side?)

If that is what they sell as a T88, like I said before, I'd say that they are ripping people off… for one thing the inducer is nowhere near what 88 mm… it looks to be somewhere in the high 60mm range… FWIW, it looks nothing like the T88's that I've seen, but I have seen something that looks just like that but I can't place it right now…

This is a pic of a greddy T88... unfortunately, this thing does not look like this. The inlet for the compressor is no where near that long or that large.

Got the pictures

Even though i guess the question has been answered, i wanted to post the pics. This thing is quite large.
