Procharger on stock drivetrain people please step inside...
I'm looking at a L98 GTA with a P1-SC on it. Stock internal motor(not worried about that) and a stock 700r4, car has 107K miles.
I've owned enough thirdgens to know the 700's suck *** in stock form. It seems the guy only drove the car on weekends(only 6K miles in 2yrs with the blow).
IF I get the car I know I have to be easy on it but have any of you guys had stock 700's last with a blown motor pushing it? Thanks!

I never had any problems with my transmission when I had my P1SC or my D1SC. Mine was a '91 though. What year is the GTA?

Re: Procharger on stock drivetrain people please step inside...
im actually planning of a using a 700 in my iroc behind a 375ci 10.75:1 lsx motor. the motor made 468rwhp thru a m6 with z06 cam and some cleaned up 243 heads. with ls6 intake. i dont know how long it will last, but the guy that builds my trans. said it should hold it, and another 700 he built runs 10's in a s10 with a 383ci sbc with spray. he did build my uncles 4l60e and it makes 435 rwhp and not a single prob. ben there for about 3 yrs. sees track and alot of highway. im also using a th350 he built behind a turbo lsx swap.
i think it should handle it, if properly built.

If I get the car I'll have money set aside from a good trans...but the plan is to get the car, drive it around for the summer then go through everything over next winter.

I put a P1SC on a stock 350, stock 700r4, in my stock 91 Z28. My 1LE only had 40,000 miles on it and the transmission went bye bye (atleast 3rd and 4th did) on the highway when I jumped on the gas to pass some cars. I remember seeing 70mph on the speedo, then VROOOM, the tach redlined real quick and I pulled over and only 1st and 2nd where useable.

yes, the lsx engine is going behind a 700r4 from a 89 350tpi car. from a trans am, going in a 89 iroc , along with 6.0 flexplate and spacer used with stock tpi flexplate and 2800 or 3k stall, 4th gen 3.42 gear rear end

Well I found out the trans was freshened up a few thousand miles ago, nothing performance wise was added so I'll still set aside some $$$ just in case
I'm checking it out on Sunday, I assume the car will have the same street manners as a stocker provided I'm not hammering the throttle every seconds right? How loud is the P1-SC?
How bad did fuel mileage suffer?(not that it matters since it'll be the fun car)

Answers the lunch the stock trans question...
If the Procharger is anything like my Vortech, its completely normal until the RPM's come up with my foot down and I start getting pressure in the intake. And during those times... I can watch the fuel gauge drop in short order.

Seems all Prochargers are loud enough that at idle with muffler(s) you hear it quite a bit, but open headers totally drown it out.

Re: Procharger on stock drivetrain people please step inside...
my car was a 131K mile highway driven L98 and i blew the trans at 140K and i wasnt even racing it much.
I think it has a chance to hold for alittle while but its usually the higher stalled converter that starts to hurt them for some reason. 3-4 gear clutch packs go out first.
But if it does go, a mild rebuild for 450hp or so will hold up just fine. Mine held great for 3 yrs of racing with 1 of those years being with a 400whp n/a 383 then a 520+whp nitrous 383 with some nasty 60 foots. Never really had a problem and that was a mild rebuild

So I'm getting it tonight I'm freakin excited lol
The charger has about 6K on it, is it time for an oil change? Also, is there any warm up periods for the charger on cold mornings or anything like that? I don't want to take any shortcuts with this car or do anything wrong.

Change the oil. Get a six pack from ATI.
Its cheap enough.
I would also recommend a real Air/Fuel ratio sender and gauge.
I have a brand new kit from FJO that I planned on putting on a 1980 turbo Trans Am. It got flooded by Hurricane Katrina and was totaled.
I will sell you the kit for what I paid plus shipping. It also has a boost gauge.
Both gauges are digital.
Actually it was a good deal since I bought the previous kit as the newer one wes coming out. The Owner made a deal to me as I was a returning customer. I have this kit on my 1991 TA.
You want to see that you are not running lean during boost so you will need a real air/fuel gauge. The sensor has 3 wires.
I can send photos and give price if interested. Send a PM.
Check it out.

Thanks for the offer...I didn't realize that the car has a wideband on it so I'm using that for now
I was reviewing the paperwork and saw that the previous owner only ordered a 2-core intercooler, would a 3-core make a huge difference?

Your car has one already?
I am running dual 2 core and this is probably the best set up.
The 3 core is large and tends to block air flow to the radiator.
The size will be dependent on how hot the outside air is.
Willie lives in Az where the temps are very hot. I was in New Orleans and also had high temps. Now in Austin I am seeing 90s and up in the summer.
Of course, the best time to run will be in cooler parts of the year.
An alky/water injector will also help.
I just got a new one from SMC.

Something else to consider.

I have 6 bottles of oil, I didn't realize he gave me some.
I know about the SMC kits, good stuff. I have no plans on going with more boost...this isn't going to be an all out track car..it's going to be a cruiser. The wideband is telling me the A/F is DEAD on so I'm good for now. I'd definitely run an alky kit if I decide to go nuts.
How many bottles of oil does this P1-SC take?

Yeah it is.
It's weird going back to a thirdgen...heavy doors, crap window motors...the car just feels so crude and unrefined...I LOVE IT!

Solenoid and wires get too hot so no response when trying to start.
Got this going on right now with the new engine.
Doing a remote solenoid.
Was ok with the original engine though. So you never know what to expect?!?

I'll keep an eye out for that problem...if it happens then a remote one will be installed...it's not hard to do.
