Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

I put the carb back on today, and now the tach and temp gauges are acting weird.

The tach reads accurate while driving, but as soon as the key is turned off, the tach slowly crawls to 1000 rpm and...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

So I epoxied over the secondary plugs today, although I doubt that will address the hard starting. There was still a decent amount of fuel in the bowl after 24 hours, although some had clearly...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

I took the carb off to do another leak test today. A few things I noticed:

-Car was last run 24 hours ago. I got three good squirts out of the booster looking down the choke, but the fourth and...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

If I leak test the carb again, and don’t find any issues/leaks, is it possible that the fuel pump could have a bad diaphragm and causing drain back between the carb and pump, or the pump and the...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

I’ve read about using dish soap and compressed air to check for leaks. Is that something I can do with just the throttle plate off and gently blowing air down through the bowl vent? Or does the carb...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

Choke pull of works fine with the finger test. And doesn’t help the starting issue with the choke propped open some.

I just let the car sit for 4 days. Looked down the choke and actuated the...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

I don’t have a timing light, but have a friend/mechanic down the road that does and can check it. I wasn’t sure if timing could have any impact on hard starting or not.

The carb is E4ME (picture...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

Yes spark plugs are a pain on these cars, which is why I just had both the plugs and wires replaced while the transmission was out at the shop. There can’t be more than 200 miles on them.

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours

Now normally, I...

Re: Rochester Quadrajet 10 seconds to crank even after sitting a few hours
