I have been running the set up from post #10 and am happy with it. No detonation on 89 pump gas. Went with the 440 lift cam, runs good to 5000 rpm.

89 Trans Am GTA suspension

I just looked at a 1989 GTA manual trans car to by for parts.
Engine/ trans are gone mainly want rear axle but couldn't get under car to look at it.

I am guessing posi? Would it be the Gov lock?...

MSD Box vs HEI

I have run stock and aftermarket HEI on the street and circle track with no problems. Cheap and easy to find spare parts in a pinch.
Is it worth it to use something like an MSD-6AL and MSD billet...

My thought is that it will be fine just driving down the road but you may find some bind in your steering under high wheel load situations, as in braking and/or hard cornering.

You can clamp some square tube or equivelent to the ends of the tubes and take some measurements between the two...

I am also looking to do a low $$ build. Have a good stock 350 and good low mile 416 casting 305 heads. Not looking to race just good driver with enough vacuum for brakes and spin tires now and then. ...

Just to simplify in my mind, If I would imagine a 6" spacer but the tire still centered on the rwheel hub, the load still has to come through the spacer which now has 6"s more moment arm or leverage...

Picked up an 85' TA and after poking around here for a month or so, looks like a lot of people run spacers. I can understand why with all the selection of rims out there.
