You are correct. There are no Pontiac V8's in these cars, they are all Chevy V8's. Your 1988 350 TPI is a Chevy engine.

I know you've stated that it isn't throwing any codes, but my car has behaved this way from both a failed EGR and a bad MAF sensor. It's worth looking at your MAF relays as well.
