Re: 1987 black Pontiac Firebird Formula

It's a good project car that actually runs. Just needs some TLC since it's been sitting.

Re: 1987 black Pontiac Firebird Formula

I am also giving the factory repair manual and Hanes manual to whoever buys the car. I bought the factory manual for about $50 and it's been pretty useful in conjunction with the Hanes manual.

Re: steering/suspension issue

Re: BAD squeak while turning

Yeah the car has had two pretty recent previous owners, so I'm trying to evaluate what has and hasn't been changed and what needs to be replaced sooner rather than later.

The motor hasn't given me...

Re: BAD squeak while turning

Well the weather was too crappy to get anything done this weekend, of course. But I got under there and took a few more pics, and that tie rod straightened back out so I'm gonna replace the inner...

Re: Headliner Help!!!

What if the foam is what's falling and not the material?

It looks like the previous owner tried to duct tape it to the roof... I decided to take the t-tops off for the first time, and the light...

Re: BAD squeak while turning

Re: BAD squeak while turning

Well.... I finally got a chance to take some pics at least... I'm really starting to think it's not the strut, sometimes the squeak almost goes away completely, but still squeaks while I'm parallel...

Re: BAD squeak while turning

Hmmm, would the bearings squeak like that though?

I'll probably have to wait until the weekend to work on the car at all, but I'll check the bearings.

Have you figured anything out about yours?

Re: BAD squeak while turning

Yeah mine is mostly stock suspension, no aftermarket a-arms, bushings, or hardly anything.... Yet. I think the previous owner put some shiney red struts in the back, but the front looks stock. I...

Re: BAD squeak while turning

I think mine does squeak more when turning left, lol
But my sound is coming from the left side....
I just don't want to replace the struts if that's not what's making the noise, until I can do...

Re: BAD squeak while turning

I mean when turning the steering wheel.

And yes it does it while turning the wheel, sitting still.

Checked to make sure everything is tight, and it looks good.

Noticed something else to add...

BAD squeak while turning

This didn't start until after I redid the outer tie rods, brakes, and new idler arm... Thoroughly greased everything. Now there is a terrible squeak when I turn the wheel. My dad thinks it's the...

Re: loose idler arm

Yeah, I have to get to my parents driveway to actually be able to get it up in the air. And I didn't mean the idler arm caused the roughness, I was just looking for opinions about it while I was on...

Re: loose idler arm

Don't mean to hijack someone else's thread, but I just replaced my idler arm when I redid the front tie rods and brakes, (it was broken). I had the same rattle as the OP. Then, I drove around,...

Well I don't have much experience with the electrical stuff, I'm usually working on simpler motor parts :)

But, I did look at my MAF sensor and it has been remanufactured, and I still have the...

Re: Occasional stalling, looking for some ideas

Still no input?

Well I did the paperclip trick to get the codes and I got 13, 33, 44, and 45.

The previous owner had the back half of the exhaust done and I need to take a look and see if they...

Re: Occasional stalling, looking for some ideas

Also a few quirky things I've noticed, if I'm sitting in the driveway idling, and the temp is up past 200, pre-220, and some one shuts the hood, sometimes the car will stall, and I've had the fans...

Occasional stalling, looking for some ideas

Hey I just bought an '87 firebird formula, automatic 305 TPI. The guy I bought it from replaced the alternator, did a tune-up, and oil change before he stored it for the winter... I replaced the fuel...
