Re: tbi to carb suggestions.

A holley 750 would be too large for a stock 305. With an automatic trans, a 600 Holley with vacuum secondaries would be much better. A non-electronic q-jet would work real well on a stock 305 also....

Re: question about Carbs

For a stock engine certainly keep the original carb. For a modified engine, try the ccc qjet. It may work OK but I don't think they do in all cases. Mine seems lean (slight stumble) at small throttle...

Re: '84 L69 T/A won't run

I think the helper pump helps prevent cavitation by slightly pressurizing the fuel in the line from the tank up to the pump on the engine. Since the mech pump has a return, the in tank pump may...

Re: '84 L69 T/A won't run

Yes 84 L69 cars do have the in-tank pump. I think mine has gone dead too, but I use to hear it run when I turned the key on before starting the car. It will drive without it but pressure may go low...

Re: L69 electric in tank fuel pump without ECM?

I meant the qjet would be erratic with a dummy TPS connected (not that it's extremely smooth with it connected). I tried this today and it did run slightly erratic but not bad. It was difficult to...

I'll play 2nd devils advocate. I've had a similar experience as oamhmad. Trouble getting the cccqjet to run well on a mildly modded 350. Mine's not throwing any trouble codes either. My suspicion is...

Re: L69 electric in tank fuel pump without ECM?

Yes, it is an L69 car, so fuel pressure is somewhat stock. Actually when I replaced the mechanical pump (new from dealer original pump), fuel pressure was too high. I assumed there is some...

You may very well be right. Just what I found in the factory service manual at this point. The manual could be wrong (couldn't find anywhere in the manual where it mentioned the L69 having an in-tank...

When going to an aftermarket carb on an L69 and disconnecting ECM what happens to the in tank electric fuel pump? The factory service manual doesn't show an ECM connection to this pump.

OK. Well the CATS are not really new; very low miles but I probably bought them in 2003 and they do have fittings for AIR. Depends on how "modern" they are. Thanks for the input.

naf is right, check in that you should check the carb too. If you have a gage to check fuel pressure, that would resolve if pressure is too high.
