Anybody in NW Illinois interested in an 89 Trans Am?

I found this car listed at a dealership in Sycamore. Looks pretty decent for an 89, excusing the carpeted dashpad and ugly steering wheel cover. Not sure if the paint is original or not

Digital Dash questions

2 Quick questions about the digital dash on the Firebird. What years were they available (I thought 85-87, but now I'm not sure) and were they only available on the Trans Am's?

Re: Cool, Interesting, Meh, or Abomination?

If they did something with the interior besides leaving a faded 3rd gen style in there, like made a more retro style interior, it would be interesting. Nothing I would pay for, but interesting. Like...

Re: Player's Challenge vs. Knight Rider pricing

Maybe it's just the pics, but I think that KITT replica's nose does not look like it's shaped right. Looks way too pointed and should not overhang the lower nose like that one does. No way is that a...

Re: 89 Iroc Revival

You might want to check the fuel pump relay and see if that has shorted instead of replacing the pump.

Looks like a promising start. I'll be surprised if any of the rubber belts and hoses are salvageable though, especially if squirrels have been in there

Re: Driving in D hurting tranny

Using D instead of OD shouldn't hurt anything, it will just lock out the overdrive. It may wear out the clutch a little faster since it will be shifting at higher RPM's.

Re: Help me wake this Sleeping Beauty!

You may need a new transmission if you want to go over 400lbs torque. If the 5 speed you have is a T5, it won't be able to handle that much power.

If you want a manual, it would be probably be cheaper and easier to drop a T56 in the Formula...

Re: The "Red Dragon" 1987 Formula 350

I would agree with ignition or ECU issues too if it has good fuel pressure at the rails. It could also be low pressure from the pump.
