The drive shaft and trq arm also change...

Keep in mind everything that connects to the transmission will be out of alignment. The cross member, trq arm, shifter, etc. They all have to be adjusted to account for the straight up installation.

Looks good! Similar issues for me and my seats were already non-82 high back buckets from another base model. I replaced mine with Sunfire seats, from a '97.

No matter what seats you get I'm pretty sure you need to swap over your 3rd gen sliders to them. I just installed 97 Sunfire GT seats in my 82 and needed to re-use the 82 sliders.

The screw head on mine snapped off below the ebrake handle hole. Had to slot the bottom of my handle to get it off then vice grip the screw out. I hate that little screw.

I would focus my electrical investigation near the column. Sounds like that might be the catalyst to this whole thing. Maybe a wire is frayed and grounding out on the column or something like that??
