Those plugs are much too long!! My plug is barely 1/2" to 3/4" long for the insulator. My header is directly over the plug hole.

It really is all in the motor and chassis setup. A 383 or larger displacement SBC needs to breathe. A good set of heads and a good cam should get a 383 into the 400-500 hp range. My mild cam 383...
