The flames are from the hot exhaust coming in contact with oxygen in the outside air. Once there's a gasket in there and its tight you shouldn't have a problem.

Or you could just get a set of 3.73's for your stock rear end. You'll have to install them yourself though, cause shops charge as much as $500 to put them in.

I had a similar problem with my flowtech headers....

I had a similar problem with my flowtech headers. I use a 1" offset box wrench with the one end cut off so it doesn't get in the way. I only use the wrench, no spark plug socket.
