I've seen aluminum pans being welded when they have cracks so I don't see why and also the pan will fit into the 3rd gen but the problem is that it hangs about two inches below the cross member.

I used a universal catch can I bought from ebay for like $30 shipped...Its chrome and looks nice and it does the job...every oil change the can has a little bit of oil in it and I clean it out....

That is the pully for the smog pump. The only way to make it stop doing the noise is to replace it, delete it, or even try gutting out the pump.
