Yeah, I only managed to get 280,000 miles so far out of my early 2.8L - probably won't get another 280k. :thumbsup:

The HO (LL1) v6 was apparently available in 83 and 84. It's identified in my 84 Owners manual and FSM.

I am guessing the heads may be the only meaningful difference. I'll check my FSM again for...

I have an ‘84 Firebird w/ the original V6 - The 102HP LC1 engine and 700R4 transmission.

In 1984 there was an optional LL1 ‘HO’ V6 rated at 125HP also available.

Found this article from Modern Tire Dealer back in 1984 that references the Vectors debuting in the retail market that year. However they had already been in production as OE tires for 84 model...

V08 - $70 without C60 (air)
V08 - $40 with C60 (air)

As you may know, the GM OE cable has been discontinued. AFAIK there are 3 aftermarket options available:

Dorman part# 04260 : 29.312 in
ATP part# Y240 : 29.500 in

I installed a 2SE and distr from an '85 S10 and a 700R4 conversion kit from Summit.

Car starts easily and runs very smooth at cruise, part throttle - better than before. WOT is about the same.

Look at the pictures above. The HEI posted by 84silverS/C appears to place the flange on the shaft housing MUCH higher - perhaps 4 or 5 inches than the OE style distributor. Thus my question above...
