Camaro Specialist in the Wash DC area?

I've had a 89 sitting in a garage for 1 year now saying I'm going to do a manual swap over and over. It's time I accepted that I'm simply not going to be doing this myself and do what all smart...

Re: Tbi to HSR

I'm sure it does, a 7.4 only flows 650 cfm or so and LS1 are up to 750ish I believe.

I'm still not convinced that's better than a HSR. The HSR is $510 for the intake and the rails. And the...

Re: Tbi to HSR

I have long been debating this sort of setup versus the HSR. Technically the HSR's tunnel ram design with large plenum should be superior. I think the plumbing of the fuel is a wash for either...

Re: 9:1 compression too low?

9:1 can be ok, it depends what you do with it. If you run a mild cam, it's not a bad place to be.

Re: Crate engine info

It's probably a low compression engine with junky heads. I wouldn't pay extra cause it's a "crate engine."

That said, a third gen is not a heavy car and even a crappy small block will scoot it...

Re: Compression Ratio vs Octane?

My advise is aim for the lower side of acceptable. You can push the limit a bit more with knock controlled EFI ignition, but chasing the maximum compression possible doesn't net you as much extra...

Re: .500" lift on LO3 heads? (going for broke with a LO3)

And I understood it perfectly, I'm just pondering if I should run it near the limit, or be a bit more conservative to avoid mechanical failure. Or maybe I should just go for broke since if I break...

Re: .500" lift on LO3 heads? (going for broke with a LO3)

I wonder if it's a better idea to go with the slightly lower lift cam just to keep the stress on the studs down. Hmmm.

Also these are self-aligning rocker heads, are they gonna play nice with...

Re: 305 rebuild, more power, but original

The biggest dome I've seen for a 305 was -2.8 cc for 6" rods and they were mucho $$$. Even with those you'd barely have about 9.5:1. Pretty much anyone who is building a 305 is doing it on the...

Re: .500" lift on LO3 heads? (going for broke with a LO3)

Re: .500" lift on LO3 heads? (going for broke with a LO3)

I'm not saying they're "good" so much as saying they'll work up to a point, around 300 hp. We're constantly inundated with people asking how to make their LO3 faster, and we tell them all to get new...

Re: .500" lift on LO3 heads? (going for broke with a LO3)

They're both "Swirl Ports," the Vortec is just a much improved design that flows better. Both should swirl the air and fuel nicely and produce the desired "fast-burn" combustion.

How much...

Re: .500" lift on LO3 heads? (going for broke with a LO3)

You've hit upon what I've noticed. I've always been a believer in the "you can only get in what you can get out" theory of engine design. The 187's fit this with exhaust flow that's slightly worse...

2) I agree, but it high lift means more time spent in the areas of peak flow.

3) The chamber design seems to be exactly the...

.500" lift on LO3 heads? (going for broke with a LO3)

The conventional wisdom over in the TBI forum is that LO3 heads can't handle more than .480" of lift. My questions are what is the problem and what can be done about it? Reason being, that a lot of...

Re: 305 rebuild, more power, but original

That's the second time in two days I've hear of the PosiTrax locker. How does it compare to a Torsen? Seems like it's better for full out drag launches, but how is it at going around corners?

Re: can anyone help me out with gear info?

What other mods do you have? Are you currently a 2.73? I'd consider a 3.2(3?) or a 3.42/3.45 before I went for the full 3.73.

Re: mild 305 build questions

Do a mild rebuild with SpeedPro flat top pistons. Then you won't need to mill the crap out of the Vortecs to get decent compression.

Re: Budget high TQ 305 build for less than $500

Torque = Displacement (not exactly, but for the purposes of this...
