Picked up 92 rs today
I had seen a camaro on ebay a couple of days ago and decided to call about it. Picture was not great so I setup a time to look at it. I drove about 2 1/2 hours to take a look. Paint was pretty rough, hood pins in hood, just a little rust on passengers side rear wheel well. Everything else was pretty decent. So here it is a 92 RS, Purple Haze color, Black interior, T-top,305 t.b.i and automatic transmission. The owner was asking $1200 but was able to get it for $850. I drove it home with no issues,. The engine seems to have a slight surge it may need plugs. I can't really tell yet. the transmission shifted smoothly, engine did not smoke and the car is almost completely original. Seats have minor wear and of course the dash is cracked. I will probably be asking a lot of questions over the next couple of weeks about little problems that I run into. I will tear into it tomorrow and try to get some pics. My big issue is do I put it back to it's original condition or build it any suggestions would be great.

Sounds like a decent deal you got there
The answer is to do what makes you happy. You are the one who has to drive it!
Good luck with your project.

I have always liked having a quick car. But values keep going up on the 3rd gens and as we all know modifying them only hurts value unless you are selling to another gear head.

Well, as things go. The purple, if original color may be rare. But its a rs, 305, automatic. so Other than the color. It may never really increase in value. But who really knows?

Re: Picked up 92 rs today
i think the purple haze with the Tan interior is actually one of the rarest combinations. i don't have any proof to back it but i have read that in a few threads on this forum - then again that may also apply to Verts only. i know when i bought mine for some reason something stuck in my head as the purple haze being a fairly rare color. when i got home after my 6 hours drive to bring the car home i discovered that purple was actually one of the more common colors (again this may all be for the verts) if i remember correctly for the Z28 Verts out of 1200-ish made in 92, more than 50% were purple, the next highest was black (i might have those backwards but i don't think so since i was surprised there were fewer black cars). the rarest colors i think if i remember right were the quazar blue, and green.

Re: Picked up 92 rs today
My first Camaro was Purple Haze as well, but a hard top with grey interior, very cool car. Dark Green Grey was the least used color, blue, polo green, dark red and purple where down at the bottom of the list as well. Bright Red, Black, White and Teal where up at the top.. I had the total numbers somewhere, but I think it was in a book of my Dads. I seem to recall purple as maybe 3rd or 4th least popular though. Someone has to have production numbers..
Edit - Here you go, looks like it was right in the middle.

From what I recall it doesn't exist. They only have information for all the options seperately, not for how many with what options put together.
