What pin module does my car have? I have the remote coil on the firewall and the smaller distributor cap. I am almost certain that my ignition module is the problem with my car. I think it's on its way out and is acting up when it gets heat soaked. Causing the car to have rough idle, hesitation from a stop, and the bucking while driving. The car only does this when it gets warm. I noticed today the car was acting up before going on the freeway but the problem went away a little bit once the car got cold from driving on the freeway. Anyone know which module my car has in it?
That sounds like the problem my 91 Z is having. Been doing it for about a year now and nobody can figure out why. They keep telling me its the computer, so I've had it replaced twice now. Still have the same problem.
The ignition module in your car has 8 pins to it. There are two connectors on the back of it, one connector has two pins for the wire harness going to the ignition coil and the other connector has four pins going to the ECM and the timing bypass wire. The two pins on the module inside the distributor are for the pick-up coil connection. BTW, are you coating the bottom of the module with that di-electric silicone grease? If you aren't, they bar-b-que fast.

As far as I know it is the original module on the car, so I guess it would be due to go out. Time to dig one out of the junkyard. I just wanted to make sure to grab the correct one. So any 8-pin one will work correct? Or is there different 8-pin modules? Thanks for the help guys.
Don't get anything but the genuine AC Delco. If you do you will find out in a short time why I say that. When you are looking and you find one that is not AC Delco ....leave it!
By the way...priced one at the dealer the other day $71 "whew" what the H... caused them to go so high?
Do you have the AC Delco part number Don? That way I can look around and see if I can find one cheap. This module has got to be the problem with the car and I want to replace it with something that will last.
Ok I found GM part number 10482827. The list price is $71 but on gmpartsdirect.com I can get it for $35. Is this the correct one? If so I will order it.

That's what my '91 did. Changed modules and still the same problem. Then I checked the injectors and found 2 bad ones. Replaced them and end of problem. FYI, YMMV.

DO NOT grab a junk yard module. Spend the money for new one. If you can't get an AC Dleco one, you can get an Accel from PAW or a Holley thru Summit.
Also, the module may not be the problem. When the module went bad in my car it stumbled once or twice, then just plain gave it up. Car stalled while sitting at a traffic light. It would refire, but only run for about 30 seconds. I had to have the car towed home.
You can always have it tested at Auto Zone as well. The RS we had also had similar problems but it ended up being the electronic spark control module, that mounts to the firewall. I hope that you get it all figured out
I'm not going to get a junkyard one now that I see they go for $35 new. I just want to make sure that part number I gave is the correct one. If it is then I will order it. It should be changed anyway since I don't how old the one on the car is. The problem is most definently a heat problem. The problem only happens when the car gets hot. All the injectors are firing and I don't think it is a fuel problem. I have a feeling it's something in the ignition that is getting heat soaked. I really want to get this solved because I hate not being able to take the Trans Am anywhere far. Anyway, can anyone verify that part number is the correct module?
