Car: 1989 IROC-Z28 Camaro
Engine: 403 LSX
Transmission: TH400
Axle/Gears: Moser 9" 3.25's
FS: 89' IROC-Z LSX/T56 Swap 4 Sale
Gauging interest on my 89' IROC-Z Camaro. Finished the swap in April of this year, and put myself into debt by doing so.
So I would like to see if anyone would be interested in buying my pride and joy so I can get myself back on my feet.
SPECS
CAR
1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z28
Hardtop
Originally an L98/700r4
Had 89,000 ORIGINAL miles on it when the swap was done. I have not hooked up a speedometer since the swap so It still shows 89k. I have put less than 5k on it since the swap though.
Has a custom Jet black paint job professionally done in FL. Has light blue ghost stripes and flames on the hood. Professionally tinted tail lights done by body shop. Paint job alone was over 2k.
All lights, blinkers, fog lights WORK. The only lights that do not work are the reverse lights.
ENGINE
1998 Camaro Z28 LS1 Block, oil pan, front and rear covers, sensors, and computer.
Callies Compstar 4.00" Stroker crank
Callies Compstar H-Beam Rods
Mahle flat top Forged Pistons
Clevite "H" Chamferred bearings
Moly rings
Shortblock professionally built by Performance plus out of Albuquerque NM
GM LS2 timing set
Vengeance Vindicator Cam 240i 244e .605i .596e 113 lsa
TSP LS7 lifters and hardened 7.325 pushrods
AFR Mongoose 205cc Heads milled to 62cc's
PRC .650 valve-springs, retainers and locks
GM LS6 intake manifold, fuel rails, injectors and throttle body
Custom cold air intake made by me
GM LS1 valve covers, coils, plug wires
Edelbrock 4th gen F-body Shorty Headers ceramic coated NO AIR OR EGR
Custom 2 1/2" Y pipe into a Hooker aero chamber 3" cat back with 3" manual cut out
Hawks LS1 conversion fuel system including Racetronix 255lph in tank pump with "hot" wire harness.
Custom stand alone engine wiring harness adapted to the third gen chassis harness
Hawks AC delete shroud
Hawks LS1 conversion Motor mounts
The car put down 414hp and 420ftlb on a chassis dyno. And it went 12.9 @ 115 in fontana CA with the slipping clutch and horrible 60fts. With a new clutch and gear it's very capable of 11sec passes.
TRANNY
2001 Camaro SS T56
Professionaly rebuilt by scoggin dickey performance
Ram steel flywheel
Ram powergrip HD clutch
GM slave cylinder
Ram adjustable master cylinder
4th gen pedals
Pro 5.0 shifter with lou's short stick
Stock 4th gen Hurst shift ****
2001 Camaro torque arm
2001 Camaro aluminum driveshaft
Poly torque arm and transmission mount
Hawks LS1/T56 conversion crossmember
REAR
Completely stock 9 bolt with 2.77's
Wheels and tires
ZO6 Motorsports black with silver lip
FRONT-17x9.5 with Nexen 275 40 17s
REAR- 18x10.5 with Nitto NTO1's 315 30 18s
2 1/2" Billet wheel adapters on all 4 corners
INTERIOR
4th Gen Camaro gray leather front and rear seats
Grant steering wheel
The interior used to be red and the previous owner tried to convert it to gray by painting all the plastic panels. It looks good besides the few scratches that show red underneath. He also decided to install new gray carpet ON TOP of the old red stuff.
Almost everything works inside the car. All interior lights work pwr windows and locks work, pwr mirrors work but the switch is broken.
THE BAD
The car needs a new clutch.
The engine has a ghost knock. I thought it was valvetrain, I replaced all lifters, pushrods, valvesprings and it is still there. Oil pressure is fine and it doesnt sound like a rod bearing.
The paintjob is a very nice one but it has some imperfections up close.
Rear tires are at about 50% tread.
I have absolutely EVERY receipt for the parts installed on the car and they add up to well over 15,000. So I am asking $10,000 obo.
Give me a call or text or shoot me an email if you are interested. Car is located in San Diego CA.

Nice car and engine conversion. Can it pass smog to sell it in California?

To be honest, you should try to get it passed smog and add those parts. Then you might find some offers. I say it's a good 6,500 car with smog.
Same would go for myself, my car isnt passing smog but will with new cats and it's a good solid 6,500 car. You gotta get it passed smog.

Thanks for the input. I had a feeling it was going to be tough to sell the car as is in Cali with the smog laws. Figured I would try though. May end up keeping it.

Re: FS: 89' IROC-Z LSX/T56 Swap 4 Sale
Yeah I think that would be best. It's a real clean car and almost finished. These cars are Hobby cars, once you start on your hobby with putting money into it, it's hard to sell unlike a stock car you can sell and make some money if you paid the right price for it. Times are real tough right now, I just dont see it selling. My car wouldnt sell either if I lowered the price. We are in a classic stage right now and we just are not pulling the classic price for them. Soon they will be antique and the prices will probably be the same.

Re: FS: 89' IROC-Z LSX/T56 Swap 4 Sale
I had a LS motor with a ghost knock and it turned out to be the roller cam set up. If thats what it is a lot of LS motors do it.

Re: FS: 89' IROC-Z LSX/T56 Swap 4 Sale
You'll probably make more money than $6500 if you part it out. Your biggest issue is not really the CA smog per say, it's the knock issue. That's a can of worms some people don't want to deal with. That's an engine pull and tear down and rebuild, which is an easy 1k with parts if they are dyi. Might even be more, most people who pay 6500-10k want to have no issues and drive the car off immediately.
2nd issue is if a CA buyer wants it, now they have to buy cats and do whatever EGR stuff for the 98 motor, take it to the ref and get it certified to get the new bar code, all costing more money.
Best bet, if you're not going to part it, sell out if state like back east, or turn it into a race car, good luck
