Registration Collections

I have not paid my registration since 2007, some one had told me you have to pay it all up before you can non op. So I figured no big deal Id pay it all when I was ready to fix my cats for smog and 2007 I had bought a new car. So after that first year of 2008 they didnt send me any dmv registration where it was the new system registration where you could pay it online, and I have no time for the Dmv waiting in line. So not having that this year I finally got something back and it's just that it went into Collections, So the total from 2007-2012 is 488.00. So no big deal I thought it was at a 1,000. Thats the total I need for passing smog and the new cats, registration.

So I say if your Thirdgen was down for repairs or mods and it's taken you awhile just do your best to get it on non op. My method was not all that bad for the time spand. So I take it our registration for 2012 is under 50.00?

Re: Registration Collections

If you would have waited another year it would have been closer to $100...

Re: Registration Collections

I put my 87 T/A on non-op, and was a month late doing so. It cost me $19.00. Had I done it on time it would have cost $12.00. Once it is on non-op, the registration is good until you get ready to license it for the street once again. Once I build by engine, it will cost me $69.00 to license it + smog inspection cost. If your car is not running, don't just park it. Get the non-op and you are good to go without hassles.

Re: Registration Collections

Yeah what a bad mistake I made. Luckily it's not all that bad. Im hoping this is the last nightmare with smog with this car. And this all fell when the econmy fell and they go and raise the price on cats and Ca only, so that sucked,

Re: Registration Collections

Not sure if this "loophole" can be done in CA, but when I lived in HI I bought a car that hadn't been registered for nine years. When I went to register it ran into the $1,000+ fee. Fortunately, the nice lady behind the counter was a neighbor of mine and said if I sold it as a parts car the new owner could register it without penalty, the only requirement being that it couldn't be in my name. So I transferred ownership to my wife and avoided the fees.

Re: Registration Collections

Well my wife got a lawyer for this collections.. She is going to try and get the late payments taken off. The state wont allow another year. There already ready to take 25% of our pay. My wife holds the pink, the car was originally hers. I need to change that so I can have the weight taken off the registration. Disabled dont have to pay for the weight I heard.

Re: Registration Collections

You can check your fees online, right on the DMV site.
