i need a mobile mechanic
any one know a good mobile mechanic that can come check out my car and let me know whats wrong? i am already leaning towards a cracked head or broken head gasket since that car over heated two nights ago, water in my oil and the oilpan keeps dripping after oils out and filled up my radiator...
i just wanna hear it from a pro and get an estimate of repairs to see if my babys worth repairing or i just buy a 350 and swap over.
i live in sylmar so if they can drive down to the valley easily for a cheap cost thatd be perfect. any help is awesome thanks guys

Try Gene Jones Racing.. He is a good friend of mine. his number is 1714-650-0042. He has a program for every repair of your car the parts cost the labor cost etc. You probably get a better deal with him swapping in a 350 or 383ci.. May take him some time to get back in touch if he doesnt pick up.

Re: i need a mobile mechanic
In that case you probably be better off fixing your six.. At your age a 350 is going to cost extra for the complete swap. And with todays gas prices your v-6 would probably be better. It all depends what you can afford to do. I have contacted Gene and let him know about your issues.

Re: i need a mobile mechanic
PM sent this a.m. - here's an excerpt of interest to everyone.
The stock 5.7 TPI will deliver close to 20 mpg around town if you don't have a lead foot. It will have enough power and low-end torque to humiliate 99% of other cars in typical "stop light Grand Prix" situations, so other than tuning and a nice rumble from a Flowmaster, I wouldn't spend any money on mods. When you swap in the V8 and computer, also make sure to change the front springs and other suspension parts to accommodate the heavier engine. The Holley intake won't give you the same excellent mileage as the stock TPI, but if you're racing it will give you more high rpm. Personally, I'd sell it. Good luck with the swap, the car will be a lot more fun to drive.

Re: i need a mobile mechanic
In the city I get anywhere from 14 to 17 mpg, but my car has had a lot of work done to it. On long trip with little stop and go traffic I can up to 27mpg. And yes a lot fun to drive.

Re: i need a mobile mechanic
awesome then i have to see since i still havnt had anyone look at the car. so its been sitting for a few months. i cant drive it and i dont really wanna tow it to get it looked at. i have a perfect 305 to swap in but i wanna do a gasket change to it to clean it up and look at my internals. but i have to smog it before august. probably going to fix the six then build the 305 with swappable parts for when i get my 350. or should i just buy a 350 block? and swap everything over? a friend said he had 305 heads on his 350 for better, more compression and more hp?? he said he got around 20 out of it. never heard it being done before.
any thoughts??

Re: i need a mobile mechanic
I need to correct what I said in an earlier post. Although I still get as much as 14 to 17mpg in city I haven't been on long freeway only drive since I replaced my 305 (which I did 27mpg) on a trip to Palm Springs and back.
I was recently on a cruise to San Diego County but forgot to set my trip meter. They ave. for the other drivers was in the 20-22 mpg.
I don't have pictures of the motor but it's nothing special to look at.
