I Have a Trans Am TPI from '85.

I need the max. towable weight with brakes and without brakes.

Anybody knows its?.

What do you mean by "with and without brakes"? And not too much the unibody can't handle that much. Is there something specifically you want to tow?

I don't speak too much english (really nothing!). Its very difficult to find information about this into internet.

I'm not aware of any rated tow capacity for these cars. Can you tow stuff? Yes. Would I? Not unless I absolutely had no other choice. I did tow a loaded ~6' enclosed trailer once with my 85 but the car didnt like that too much.

Well, moog has those high-load springs for the back. And get a good set of SFC's that will help alot probably. Wouldnt hurt to have a tubular panhard or boxed LCAs.

I know automatics dont like the extra load, but hopefully you might have a T5 car with a good clucth. That will help.

I'm trying to homologated my Trans Am with american plates to spanish plates.

The man its doing the papers to homologate my car, need this info. I don't want to tow any car . Only with the max. towable weight I'll can put the Trans AM to my name and put spanish plate.

Homologated? That's a new one on me.
Call it 1000lbs.
These cars aren't rated to tow at all, but I think that's a good number that sounds accurate

I've definitely heard that number before, it might have been for the newer cars though, not sure. Either way, should be good enough, and don't ever think about towing anything with it

I don't think i would tow 1000lbs in my Maro. But I guess you could do that.

The owners manual though should have the max GVW and tow capacity. I think it will be closer to 800 lbs.

well, my v6 mustang was said to be rated at 1000 lbs, so i guess that would be close.

Lol. Now you got me thinking. It would be pretty funny to see a camaro towing stuff around. Especially another car.

I mean think about it. I am sure with SFC and maybe a few other things welded in to stiffen the chassis you would be all set. Our cars have V8's with plenty of torque - my car has the same motor as my buddies chevy 1500. Our 10 bolt rear end is the same as the S-10 and they can tow pretty decent. The only weak link would be the tranny so a t-5 would be better than a 700R4 and a t-56 would be better.

Picture a loaded TA pulling a trailer.

From pgs 211/212 of my 1990 Camaro owners manual:

"(1) The weight of the trailer: How heavy can a trailer be?
It should never weigh more than 1,000 pounds (450 kg.) But even that can be too heavy. It depends on how you plan to use your car-trailer. For example, speed, altitude, road grades, outside temperature, and time in use are all important. And, it also depends on any special equipment that will be on your car. You can ask your dealer for our trailering brochure or advice, or you can write us at Chevrolet Customer Services Dept, PO Box 7047, Troy MI, 48007-7047....

(2) The weright of the trailer tongue.
The trailer tongue should weigh no more than 10% of the loaded trailer weight. So, weigh the tongue only after it is loaded.

(3) The total weight that will be on your car's tires.
Be sure your tires are properly inflated. For the load limit, see Index under "tires-loading." As you check the total weight that will be on your car, subtract from the load limit the weight of your trailer tongue.

Trailer Brakes

Don't tap into your car's brake system if the trailer's brake system will use more than .02 cubic inche (0.3 cc) of fluid from your car's master cylinder. Also, first be sure your trailer brakes can take 3,000 psi (20,650 kPa) of pressure. If they can't, don't try to tap in."

Certainly nothing wrong with a 700r4 used when towing. They only weak link is the car itself, and not because it's a unibody, but because it has such a short wheelbase.
