V6 to V8 suspension upgrades

I'm going to be sticking a 305 in my Camaro here soon, and well its had a V6 in it for the last 21 years, so now I'm looking at a suspension upgrade.

So new struts and new springs right? I need new front shocks anyways so no big deal there, but what about the springs? I have no idea about them. How much cash am I looking at to get the right ones and installed in the car? And its just a straight up swap right?

Re: V6 to V8 suspension upgrades

Yes it will be a straight up swap. No issues there. I think spohn has oe springs, and they stock the correct iroc spring. If I can remember jamesC was the one that did the reaserch on it. and if I recall they aren't hardly any cash at all, so that will save you money. Also while you are at it upgrade front and rear sway bars as well.

Cheers!!

Yeah, I always wanted to get bigger/better sway bars for it. It handles great, better than any car I've ever driven, but it still leaves more to be wanted.

Good news though that its a straight up swap, I don't want to have to put more work into it than I have to, this is a big under taking for me, I'm 18 and will probably be doing this with just me and one or two other friends.

Get a wonderbar! New from TDS or used from JY doesn't matter - just get one. Every one of these cars should have had one regardless of motor size.

You are swapping trannies also right? V6 tranny won't bolt up to a V8!

Re: V6 to V8 suspension upgrades

Yeah, I'm getting the whole shabang. Engine block, heads, intake, runners, plenum, pulleys, accessories, wiring harness, transmission, computer, exhaust y-pipe and all the injectors, sensors, and all the little bits and pieces to make it work. All I have to do is hook it up to the car and what I have, fuel lines, coolant hoses, vacuum lines, route the new harness and computer, and beef up the front suspension to make it work.

I'll worry about the details like the dash and tach later. I'm even thinking about making it an IROC-Z clone but we'll see about that.

I probably will get it a wonderbar, I read about them that it makes them ride and handle a lot better, and gets rid of some of the shakes in the body. I wanted to get one last year but never did.

Let me know man! The more I think about working on the Camaro, the more excited I'm getting, and I just can't wait to freaking tear it apart and breath it new life, and part of that is going to be a wonderbar!

Re: V6 to V8 suspension upgrades

will do.. it's a little icey here today, but as soon as the weather clears, Im hitting the road

i will say that some people say it's called a wonderbar because it makes you wonder if it does anything at all.... but i figure if its important enough for the bean counters at GM to start putting them on the IROCs, that's good enough for me
