Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

hey guys, I have a problem with my GTA, whenever I get off the highway after long trips. It especially happens after long mountain highways where there is a lot of curves. for example Vancouver to Whistler, if anyone is familiar with that route.

anyways, the sound only occurs when I pull off to the side of the highway and do city driving. and even then it only lasts until I park the car. I am very confused by the noise wondering if anyone can help me out.

I mostly happens when I am turning. sounds like a terrible creaking metal on metal sound but it doesnt effect the drive at all, i Just hear the noise.

Re: Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

Sound like something flexing in the front of the car? Near the strut towers?

Re: Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

sound like flex? If it is, I'd say it's your strut mounts or struts, had a similar. Ouse but everything was tight, came to find out both struts were shot and my driver side strut mount was shot and allowing the strut to move and flex while turning or hitting a bumb. If at from the strut areas I'd replace those

Re: Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

Re: Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

I think I'm dealing with something similar. Just get a strange noise while turning the wheels left/right at a stop or at low speeds after driving it a while. Weird creaking type sound.

Did you ever figure it out? Like you, it doesnt do it early on, just after a medium/long drive.

A LOT of my suspension components are pretty new. I've got new ball joints, new a-arm bushings, good sway bar bushings, wheel bearings are fine, struts are Konis that are 4 or 5 years old (they should be fine)...

Re: Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

Check the metal area around the steering box, where it bolts to the frame. Known issue that they crack there. Once repaired also install a wonder bar (steering brace).

Re: Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

are you sure its not the rear? ive experienced all these symtoms on a few cars with lsd/posi. after a long drive, ill slow down for some city driving, take a tight turn and then start hearing some clunking noise. a few hours later or the next day the noise is gone.

Re: Loud Mysterious Noise after Highway Driving?

ok, so It did it again today. I had my buddy get out and listen. I drove back and forth very slowly..with the steering wheel straight, no noise. with the wheels turned in any direction going back and forth would make the rear wheels make a weird rubbing noise with a definite clunking. anyone? please?
