yeah, i found in normal passing you that you won't find a replacement anywhere locally for the 36mm bars. JamesC' links are what I used when I did mine over the summer

Re: Sway bar bushings

91-92 WS6 cars used a blue poly bushing on the end links and cloth lined black rubber for the swaybar to frame mounts..
earlier WS6 cars used a yellow endlink, not sure when they went from yellow to blue.
I use moog poly they are blue. I have a PT number but its in my garage.
I think AZ usually has red from Energy suspension in stock at their stores

Edit: the swaybar endlink kit is moog K6630

Re: Sway bar bushings

Biggest Energy Suspension sells is a 35mm, and is on the shelf at the zone, 1 3/8 IIRC. Lon at Top Down Solution modifies the Energy 35mm's by opening them up to 36mm and adding a grease fitting and cutting a groove in them to make them greaseable, I just picked up the TDS ones and installed them, they are quite nice pieces. I took the blue Moog ones off, they worked great, but I had the 34mm brackets and they weren't long enough to go all the way to the frame so I picked up the TDS bushing/bracket set, mainly for the bracket.

Moog part number is K6459, I ordered them off rockauto.com like $10 for a pair IIRC. I'd give you my old moogs if you were closer.

Re: Sway bar bushings

Two problems with the supposedly 36mm bushings in the Young's F-body link you provided. First problem, notice that the mount holes in the brackets are slots that are in line with each other. That pattern will only work for the 1982 F-body, since it was the only year that had the straight mount pattern for the bolts. 1983-92 F-bodies have an offset mount pattern to the bolts. In order to get those brackets to work you'll need to drill or grind alot of the bracket and you won't have much meat to the bracket left. You can cut off one end of the bracket and weld on another plate with the correctly placed mounting hole. This will solve the bracket problem, but it won't solve the second problem. The bushing in the picture is a 35mm, not a 36mm. You'll need to hone it out to be 36mm. If you install it without enlarging the ID to 36mm the bushing will have too much friction on the sway bar. You run the risk of breaking a bracket or damaging the bushing from too much friction. I know many customers that have mistakenly bought those 35mm bushings and been sorry.

Re: Sway bar bushings

Hi

First off all i am from germany so i am sry for my bad english and i am new here in this forum

I have an 88 GTA and i want to replace my sway bar bushings too. I thought about ordering them by youngs F-Body too.

Well i have no idea what size i need. I looked already this link up:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/faq-...-sway-bar.html

On my SPI label i have the FE2 code so it should be a 34mm front and 21 mm rear right? I also read in a thread here in the forum that GTA´s have always 36mm front ones? is that true?

Does aynone know a good site where i can order ALL bushings i need? I want to replace all orginal ones aginst new poly bushings.

It very difficult from 8000 miles away to get parts/information/help . Have a lot of questions so i hope you guys can bail out an F-Body lover from germany and i also hope to win some friends here

Michael

Welcome to TGO, Michael.

Your best bet is to measure the bar with an adjustable wrench in a couple of places, then measure the distance between the jaws.

The following sites will no doubt have all that you require:

http://www.top-downsolutions.com/

http://www.spohn.net/

Re: Sway bar bushings

Typically the FE2 option is a 34mm front 21mm rear in 88-90, 34mm front 24mm rear in the 91-92 models. The GTA's and WS6's came from the factory with the 36mm fronts. I also have read about some 88+ cars having a 24mm rear, not sure if it was factory or swapped. As James stated, the only way to be 100% sure is to measure them.

Re: Sway bar bushings

I've measured them myself on 5 or 6 3rd gens now and I've never found them to have exactly what they're supposed to... Measure them with a caliper and order what you actually need or replace the swaybars what you want when you learn that it doesn't have what you expect under it...

FWIW, I don't entirely agree with Lon on this... the fact is that poly cold flows, so the bushing doesn't need to be _exactly_ right. After you bolt it up it will flow to the shape that you have it bolted down to. It's not perfect but you can get a 34mm on a 36mm bar or a straight pattern bracket on an offset pattern car, start all the bolts loose and snug everything up and it will work and won't bind if you lube them up right. I've noticed that all the TTA's came with 36mm bars and factory 34mm bushings (they use different shells with spacers to move the bar down to clear the intercooler), and in a pinch I've used the straight ES bushing/bushing shell (though the right size) on a car with offset bolt holes. In both cases I didn't see any problems, though I won't argue that the correct size bushing in the correct housing is a better way to go.

If you want bushings only, then select the "BD" (bracket delete) option.
