are the stock tbi intakes so bad that its not worth having it ported and polished? i could do this for fairly cheap, but i don't know what kind of a gain i would make

I'm in this same decision period as you, I would like to go with a Performer RPM with an adapter because it would make much more power than a TBI Performer but the RPM has no EGR so....emissions. But as far as the two intakes you listed go, the RPM will make more power but the TBI Performer will be a direct bolt on without modification. The TBI has egr the RPM doesn't (unless somebody on here can supply a solution to this). So that's your call on which you would want.

what all intakes offer the egr?? i dont like getting rid of stuff thatll give me SES lights and crap, what all would you have to take off if i went with the performer rpm

I very rarely got an SES light after I killed my egr and before I took care of it on the chip. Id say every 200 miles or so, probably 5 times in a month of driving it. It aint bad, but its annoying when it kicks in.
You can get rid of whole setup with the vacuum lines and the egr running around there on the manifold. Im supprised they found room to put an engine in our cars with all the **** they put all over.

Weiand Action Plus 8000 has EGR - I haven't installed it yet, so I can't say anything good or bad - but it was cheap, and has EGR, dual plane, and should be better than stock. My brother just put one on his '87 T/A, but he used the block off plate for the EGR 'cause he has no emmissions requirements.

some time ago, there was a lot of discussion on the board concerning a project hot rod magazine did back in 1989 called "f-notes". in it, they pulled the 305, put it on a dyno and compared the performer tbi to the standard (carb) performer intake. they found the standard intake with an adapter performed much better.
the standard performer has provision for egr. the performer rpm and performer air gap will (i believe) present hood clearance issues as well as not having egr.

slowmaro in the jegs catalog there's a listing for performer intakes and it has two columns, performer w/ EGR and performer NON EGR---------this is a few issues ago but ill find my newest one later but price differenceis nonegr 109.99---and egr 141.99
take your pick. if you dont have to worry about emissions then get rid of it.but thats just my opinion.
