pics of the ultimate tbi mods and a little polishing too

Pablo if you want you can lock this post or delete it. Just figured some fellow members might want to look at these for reference. Well, that and I wanted to get some opinions, complements and complaints. LOL

All that work and you've still got a bolt stuck in the thermac line.
Looks great though, if you would, send me all the pics you got, especially the ones you took, if you did, while doing it. Ive formed a collection of about 60 different misc tbi pics that I will soon make a web page for.

hehe i just noticed you cracked the front bolt hole 'foot' on the pod. Seems like everyone does that i should put it in the article to only snug that down

tas thanks

snflupigus, yeah one day I'll get a nipple for the thermac line. As for for pics during ulti tbi mods, your out of luck. I used Kats digi camera at Maple Grove to take those. Did the ulti tbi mods long ago.

Pablo, thanks. Feel free to add them and any others to the tbi articles. Yeah it sure seems like "foot" on the pod is very weak. I broke it trying to remove the old gasket.

Next time I see Kat I might take the tbi off and get better shots. I really wanted to get a good visible shot on the tb shafts shaved, they're about 2mm thick now and shots the the AFPR screw and rod.

On another note I've been debaiting dumping the moded fpr screw and using a tap to make the fpr housing screwable. This way the FPR has a solid movable rod to regulate pressure. Kinda like turbocity's afpr. Anyone who's just starting off might want to consider this mod I've been pondering.

Here's more pictures of my moded tbi unit and a pic of turbocity's afpr for refrence. Pablo if you use any of these feel free to scale them down or degrade the picture quality if needed. I lightened up the the one shot so you can slightly see my tb shaft in it.

I think im going to do the ultimate tbi mods on my little tbi here soon, I'll take TONS of pics for you pablo. I mean, it is sitting right here in front of me, i might as well put it to use for somebody.

And does that foot NEED To be there or is the tbi pod stable with just the two screw holes? Currious, for the redesign of it.

Nah it doesn't need to be there, I've held the whole thing in the air by the broken pod, not a hint of movement.

ONEFINE8T9 I don't know, but the engine pulls much harder passed 3grand. Also to give an idea of how much a difference it made, I ran .6 faster best time slip before and after, to top it off I know I could have run faster if I would have had traction and my FPR adjusted at the time. oh yeah 1/4mile MPH jumped over 5MPH.

Godti the pod/injector tower spacer serves two purposes. One it allows more air flow around the injectors and two more fuel hits the TB bores, this allows for better fuel distribution. oh and if you look at the base of the air cleaner screw you can see exactly where it broke.

damn .6 in the 1/4?? thats over half a second. I think that would be a worth while investment considering that my tbi will be off n e way. I wonder what someone would charge me.....

ONEFINE8T9 just buy a dremmel, from Sears hardware. The base model kit with variable speed dremmel is only 60bucks. Or you can send your TBI unit to turbocity and spend 229 to get it worked, but that's a waist of money IMO.

Godti I just double stacked the original gasket over the new gasket that comes with the TB rebuild kit.

Get the TB Gasket Set, it's 20 bucks from Autozone and comes with everything you'll need. But if you make a TB Spacer you'll need to get an extra TB base gasket.

humm...i got an idea, for anyone who'd want to mod their TBI unit, is on a budget or has shaky hands I'll offer to mod if for you, but it'll cost you 60bucks. 20 of that is for the rebuild kit. So for 40bucks labor I'd shave your TB Shafts, grind off your TB ridges, Radius the surface of the TB Lips and make your FPR adjustable. Alot cheaper then what turbocity would charge.

Is there anyway someone can post the original TBI, just so I can see the difference. I dont have time right now to pull mine apart. I just want to see exactly what the throttle bore ridge is, that gets removed.

dam SNF your tbi unit looks almost brand new.

If your not done putting it together or did not install one of the pod spacers, you mind scanning it among with a dollar bill among side of it to get an accurate size printable image. I'm like to do another spacer, but use a printed out sticker over the plastic to make a perfect duplicate and using a dollar bill next to it will provide a point of reference.

I just put it thru the parts washer at my shop the other day. Its dissassmbled so I could use it easily as a reference model while I was redesigning it.

The pics are digital, not scanned.
And as for pod spacer, the only one I have is on the car, on the 454 tbi. I should be getting my damn ac delco book from napa very soon, it has pics of all the gaskets, and other peices for tbi, and much more (incl all the injectors ). I could scan that after I get it and then convert to actual size for you.
It just might be a few days +.
