hipo combos

I was thinking afr 180 heads ported with performer intake port matched with a comp cams XE262H cam. Does this sound like a
good breathing combo?? I heard that this cam made 53 hp
on an lg4

it is an ok combo. the number you listed is for a hydraulic flat tappet cam though, look for the same specs in a hydraulic roller cam. shoudl maek good power if you get a chip done.
the thing i don't really like here si the afr heads, i really don't get what hte big deal is about these guys. there are a million off teh shelf heads that flow as good as or better than their stuff adn afr charges out the a$$. for the 1000-1300 you are gonan spend on those heads you can get edelbrocks or any other big name brand that flows even more. 180 is really not a lot of flow, polished vette L98 heads can flow that and you can pick them up for under $600.

Car: 91 Camaro RS Convertible
Engine: 385ci LT1 cnc ported heads big cam
Transmission: 4L60E automatic
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Zexel posi 7.5" rear
I was thinking about the AFR 180 heads as well with the LT1 cam and 1.6RR to make good horsepower and still get good street manners and mileage. I looked at the flow numbers for the competitors heads and it took more cc's to beat the flow numbers and that would cut low end torque. Also, their aluminum heads usually run $1000 which isn't that big of savings. Vortecs are nice but aren't as plug and play as the AFR if your trying to stay emissions legal.

So then the "World's" would be better??
It is not clear to me whom you reported
that needs bigger cc's for the same flow rates.
And if I have a full exhaust ( headers going to 3in pipe to 3in hiflow cat) as well as a good flowing set of heads then can I run
the LT4 cam?

According to my research the world class heads didn't flow near as well as the AFR unless you went over 200cc runners. Large runners are going to make less low end torque because of insufficient velocity. A 383 or 400ci motor can take better advantage of larger cc's. To maintain good low end torque its best to get more flow from less cc's. Afr180 is a good head for a mild cammed 350. If your going with a bigger cam then the AFR 190's would be better. I looked at all the head manufacturers websites and none of them touched AFR for flow ratings. If I am wrong please post links because I haven't bought my heads yet and I want the most bang I can get.
