EVERYONE READ!! I need to Know
OK, thought I would post this here. Now I'm not sure if I'm jumping to conclusions or not. Lately, I've been getting a few emails that seems like they're from several people on these boards. Now I've never had problems in the past, but it seems like someone is doing something fishy.
I've gotten emails from Willie (THOUGH IT WASN'T WILLIE FROM HERE) I checked the email, it was blank, then I tried to reply and it gave me some kind of error, everytime I did it.
Then I got an email from something... irocz, so I figured it was someone from the boards, again it was blank, and keeps giving me an error everytime I reply.
Now, I didn't open any attachments, nor were there any.
Could someone be able to send me a virus like this? My computer hasn't been acting funny, I just find it weird that it seems like they were 3rd Gen members but not really and everytime I try to reply it gives me an error.
Just seeing if this happened to anyone else.
Thanks

Its possible that someone is trying to send you some type of Virus, but, due to there incredibly low rate of success I'd say you'd have little to worry about in that area. I dunno, I'd be more inclined to belive that someone is trying to actually send you an E-Mail and screwing up. Yet, the fact that you get an error when you try to reply makes it very possible that at a certain point you have aquired a virus. For instance, a new bug cruising around now is the Klez virus, here at work its been REAL big, we've cleaned about 60 systems with it in the past 3 weeks, that virus actually sends E-Mail to everyone in your address book, PLUS searches for E-Mail address's in ANY file on your computer, its possible that its sending out E-Mail to people and some of them aren't actually E-Mail addy's and there getting stuck. I'd go to Symantec's web site and DL the Klez fix.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...ools.list.html
Do it just for the sake of it, it can't hurt.
I'll check back later after I get back from a service call and see whats happened.

Exactly, what kind of errors are you getting?
If you're worried about a virus, you can always scan your system online. Go to http://housecall.antivirus.com this is a free online scan and it is one of the competitors to Nortons and McAfee. Just click on scan w/o registering and choose USA and let it load and work from there. Then if you find a virus, use this site or Symantec's(Nortons) to download a fix.
It sounds like you are getting hit with a trojan/worm type virus but it could be just a fluke!

Hey Mark, I've been getting similar emails lately too...got one the other day from a 'Z06Stingray@hotmail.com' with nothing in it and a blank html attachment. I tried replying and got a hotmail error...dunno what it is...my guess is just someone sending anonymous emails...for what reason, im not sure

YEah, the one was a hotmail that I got.
The error is the same like when you click on a webpage that doesn't work. A whole list of stuff pops up.

I think this might still be the Klez virus.
You aren't infected i bet, unless you use outlook for your e-mails (forgot what version) and are still running IE 5.5.
The virus scans infected users e-mail in/out boxes, then shoots out fake e-mails pretending to originate from those e-mails.
Drove em crazy for a while, until i did some research and found this out. As normal, if the e-mail looks odd, don't open any attatchments. Most of the e-mails i get are from random people, non with attatchments, and all with odd subjects. Once and a while i get the virus e-mailed to me.

That is microsoft's windows updates. Always install the critical updates.

There is their security updates page too.

Yeah, I get really big emails in hotmail (usually like 147K or so), that are blank when I open them. I don't recognize the senders, either.
Just figured I'd add that...

If I were you guys I'd run the Klez fix. Cause if your in anyones Address book they could be sending it to you if they have Klez. Just run it, its like a 100k DL, and the link is in the first Reply. Problem with Klez is that it doesn't let you run ANY anti virus stuff, thats why you have to hit it with a fix first. So runing any kind of AV software will just close or not run properly, the fix is really the only way, save for deleting the virus manually, to fix this problem. And since you can't scan for it, you just have to try and run the fix to see if it finds or fixes anything.

i used the housecall scan and it found it on my wifes comp.it only does its damage on the 6th day of every odd month i believe. i noticed that my wifes comp was workin when it shouldnt have been. i did the scan and it found it.unfourtunatly it had already wiped out all her jpg. file pics and a few others.but we got the fix from the housecall site and it fixed it. so no more virus . im not sure if any of you know this but i imagine that most do. if you put as your first contact in your address book *AAA and leave all the other info blank the virus cannot send it self to anyone in your list because it comes back with some sort of error message.im pretty sure it works too. cuz ive had a few viruses and ive never had anyone tell me that they got one from me.damn hackers hehe

I've gotten a few of those too. One had an attachment but the email body was blank. Needless to say, I didnt bother opening it. I also got a blank email from someone here, with a really weird title, but nothing there, no text, no html, no attachments, nothin. Weird.

What ever, I've been using "online scans" and recommended them and have never seen a trojan or addware get installed on my system or anybody elses system. But hey, that's me.

Just got an email from IROCL98, 130k in size, topic How are you. I'm not about to open it. This is pissing me off.
Just checked there is a user IROCL98 on the boards, registered in July 2001, but has never posted. Weird.

As a general rule, don't open any email attachments is you don't know the sender and don't understand the subject line. It's always a goos idea to inspect the message header befopre opening an attachment anyway, unless you are expecting an email and are POSITIVE that it is safe.
Buddy - was it any good?

strike eagals are the same plane as a F-15D with more avionics, (they had to remove the Lft. Aux. fuel tank to make room) better RWR, (radar warning reciver) beefed up engines and airframe, and the avionics to support CFT's (conformal fuel tanks- F-15C/D's can carry them but they can't support the weapon racks that are built into them. the published profromance specs for the F-15C/D and the F-15E are about the same -F-15C/D top speed (clean) mach 2.5, max attulde(sp) 70,000 ft, corner speed 475 knts (slowest speed the plane can pull 9G's - the lower the speed the more menuverable the plane) F-15E - speed 2.5+ autiltude 70,000 ft, corner speed 480 knts

I've got everything I need, drag racin' in the summer and snow boardin' in the winter. Not to mention that there's no helmet law, I like to go lidless on the ol' 73.

It was easier to put the link in the signature rather than manually add it every time. I guess I got lazy and never cleaned it out...

Yada, yada... Yes, I know how those "published" specifications are devised. I'll stand by what I said.
I believe that - just like I believe the Navy's "published" specifications on their stuff. If you believe that, and front line carrier can do "40+" knots. What they fail to mention is that the "plus" takes the speed to more like 70 kts. A *****-out CVN can outrun almost anything on the surface. They almost need a freakin' hydrofoil to run tail on a full-out carrier. I'd better stop there....

I know the published specs are off- we've had F-15E's come back with no paint on all the forward surfaces of the aircraft, and you need to go allot faster than 2.5 to do that, and I've hewrd stories of when the F-111 Aardvarks were stacioned hear they usted to replace the mach meter all the time 'cause the needel was broken off or peged on the high end.

hey I just found some tech data about F-15 tests - a modified F-15 (they removed 2800lbs from somewhere) holds the time to altitude record (sorry it's in meaters that's what the data is in)hears the data 3,000 m in 27.57sec, 6,000 m in 39.33sec, 9,000 m in 48.86 sec, 12,000m in 59.38 sec, 15,000m in 77.02 sec, 20,000m in 122.94 sec, 25,000m in 161.02 sec, 30,000 -n 207.80 sec (I did the math and 30,000m is ~98,425 ft, well beyond the published max altitude of 70,000 ft and well beyond the armstrong barier- the point in wich blood boiles due to lack of atmospheric pressur -which is ~ 60,000 ft) inpressive, huh
